Welcome to another week in New Noize and as always it’s your boy with another New Noize playlist, write up and gifs. This week was thick with full length albums arriving on my desk and it took HOURS to get this show set up. I seriously had about 4 hours of music to cut down to the 2 hour show run time and it was difficult to say the least.

For hour 1 I ran with that electronic feeling and kicked things off with the spirit animal known to us mortals as Bjork. I did play the radio edited version (as the album version is about a 6 minutes long) of “The Gate” and if this is setting the tone for her new album (which supposedly is going to be called Utopia) then I am all in. I just hope she doesn’t price out her fans, her last tour was FUCKING EXPENSIVE. I didn’t see Bjork on her last tour mostly because of the price and the fact the label could care less if I attended. Hopefully when she comes around this time I will be able to see this force of nature.

Another success story of hour 1 is the return of TOKiMONSTA. She has had a rough year. Apparently she had brain surgery and in a recent interview she said the doctors “cut out the part of the brain that makes music” and had to relearn everything. I can’t imagine the struggle TOKiMONSTA had to endure to get back to top form. The road to recovery has paid off in spades as her new music is pure fire. Looking forward to the rest of this release.

Hour 2 I shifted gears and got in the deep end on some full lengths I mentioned earlier in this write up. Ariel Pink is back and I don’t think this dude knows how to make a bad song. I am completely in love with “Dedicated To Bobby Jameson” and once it comes out you should fall in love with it to. I created a Sub Pop block with METZ, RBCF, Chad Vangaalen and Bully. FYI Sub Pop is slowly draining my bank account, all these “loser” editions vinyls are just so damn cool. Most of hour 2 was handpicking select tracks from all the full lengths sent my way including music from the National, Deerhoof, Tera Melos, Mount Kimbie, Manhattan Murder Mystery and Deer Tick. Deer Tick is releasing a double album. Volume 1 is all acoustic but then in Volume 2 Deer Tick plugs in. I am more of a Volume 2 kinda guy.

Other thing things of note that happened this weekend was me failing over and over trying to achieve any wins in the Trails of the Nine. If you play Destiny you know what I am talking about. If you are reading this and you are a Trails player and want to help me out hit me UP! MenglerMeng is my PSN name.

I also saw Mother this weekend. It was TERRIBLE. SO freaking bad. How did this dumpster fire cost 33 million dollars. Oh and I get what the movie was trying to say/convey, I’m not that thick but come on! This movie was not entertaining, not thought provocation or scary. Anyone that says they like Mother is riding around on a unicycle sporting a man bun while smoking an old school pipe with a flying squirrel sleeping in his left chest pocket. I can not get my 2 hours back and I should have seen IT.

Before I peace out I just wanted to say, GO GIANTS! Now go enjoy the rest of your week.

So moms was right everybody, this eclipse is really throwing the Earth for a wobble. Well she’s semi true according to my 15 minutes of research via google. Not only did we get a solar eclipse, there was a huge solar flare that is stirring up the Earths emotions much like a Puerto-Rican ex girlfriend. Lets look at the madness which occurred after the eclipse and solar flare. In my local zone we got hit with a heat wave that concluded in a “microburst” which is a mini hurricane/tornado/wtf is going on storm that lasts for about 10 minutes which messed up the downtown scene. On a national level Houston’s situation is pretty scary and now Florida has to deal with 3 concurrent hurricanes. On an international level Pakistan, Bangladesh & India have been devastated by earthquakes and floods which have left millions displaced and thousands dead. Then last night right before my New Noize set in Santa Barbara the night sky started to roll and lite up with a beautiful lightning show (which is a rare occurrence in this area). But hey, climate change still isn’t a thing right my fellow Americans?

On to things we can control, and you can blame me 1000% on this past Sundays New Noize playlist. Despite the solar flare & thunderstorm New Noize weathered the chaos for 2 hours of curated new music. Of course I joined the band wagon and played something off the new National record, it’s a pretty good album. I also explored some other full lengths including Phoebe Bridges, Camp Cope, Midnight Sister, Tera Melos & the Twins Peak Soundtrack (like I wasn’t gonna play Eddie Vedder)

In the world of singles I spun the highly hyped new St. Vincent track “Los Ageless”. IDK whats up with St. Vincent. This new persona she is using to promote her new record is rubbing me the wrong way. It’s like a dead pan Paris Hilton NYC socialite. Growing up in the Tri-State I had two deal with these bohemian rich white NYC ladies and I didn’t dig it then and I sure as hell don’t dig it now. I mean I get it, satire is something I do understand but this is wasted on me. I'm being a bit critical on Anne, but I really dig all of her records and am hoping that the music will outshine the oddness of this new persona. If you are from this area rule #1 is you don’t bite other peoples style and it seems like St Vincent is biting off of Father John Misty. Let Josh do Josh and you do you Anne.

Another single I have issues with is the new Beck. I have nothing but good things to say about this guy in real life. I have met him a few times now and though the encounters are brief, he’s a genuine dude, a nice guy and his Japanese sneaker game is premier. With that said Beck released yet another single off his record that is never coming out. I have waited of this album for years now, yes it has been years since "Wow" (ok its been a year but it feels like a decade) Beck you are not a member of the Wu-Tang Clan so please stop biting their release game and come out with this record. Seriously every single he has release that is going to be on his upcoming record has been supremely funked out, and I NEED THE FUNK BECK!

I’ll say it again, I need the funk.

NYC STAY UP SUN. You know what it is, I will never forget.

What up from the melting point which is Santa Barbara California. Over this Labor Day Weekend all along the golden coast temperatures SKY ROCKETED. As a dude who has no Air Conditioning things were pretty unbearable. On Sunday luckily I went to a Fantasy Football draft at my Music Programmers spot and he has AC. Around the 4th round the temperature dropped, it got dark and then over the next 8 minutes the sky broke into buckets of water, the winds were roaring through the backyard and I got some salad dressing on my laptop. OH and the power went out and for a round and a half yahoo decided all of our 4th and 5th round picks. The word on the street is it was a mini hurricane, but global warming is real right America?

I know, you aren’t here to read about Fantasy Football or the weather are you?

You’re here for New Noize and I hope I delivered this past Sunday. So much to unpack here so I will give all you New Noizers out there some of my highlights. LCD Soundsystems new Album is like butter, it goes with everything. I also hand selected cuts from other full lengths including QOTSA, Cloakroom (which I am obsessed with) Liars and the hauntingly thick Zola Jesus record. In the second hour I spun a small metal block which included “Icarus Six Sixty Six” by Brendon Small. Small’s new album Galaktikon II: Become the Storm is fantastic and its got my conspiracy brain working. Think about it for a second, Brendon Small is releasing a new record, Mastodon is releasing a new EP and Gojira is on tour in America right now. Put all of those factors together, mix in some serious speculation and a dash of hope and my brain spits out a new Metalocalypse. For reals are these guys getting the greatest animated metal band to grace the history of humanity back together?  This Dethklok fan sure as hell hopes so.

On the singles side of things the new Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett “Over Everything” is the motherfuckin jam. I hope they cut a whole record together like Jigga and Yeezus did. It would be the Indie rock equivalent of “Watch the Throne” for white people. Before you get into a tizzy, indie rock is DOMINATED by white people. FACTS! I could go on and on about each and every song I played but I suggest just following my New Noize playlist on Spotify and getting into the groove yourself.

HYPE TIME! Did anyone else play Gundam Versus beta this past long weekend? I sure as hell did and was rocking cats in Deathscythe, Wing Zero and Epyon mobile suits. The beta was great! Huge roster to choose from, multiple game modes and the ability to play online made this demo/preview/test loads of fun BUT I do have one complaint Bandai. How in the name of Char Aznable did you not make the tutorial mode open in this beta? How do you expect new players to dive deep or even get a sense of Gundam Versus with the tutorial mode locked? And why is this the ONLY MODE that is locked? Bandai needs to get to the bottom of this and make moves. Other than that huge flaw this beta was a welcomed experience and I will be getting this game on launch.

TONIGHT it's all about DESTINY 2! I have been waiting years for Destiny 2 to come out and now I’m counting down the hours. Are there any other guardians out there? Get at me, I will be building my clan up and getting down on both PvE and PvP. Many hours will be burned in the next arc of the Desitny universe.

See you in orbit at 9pm PST tonight guardians and next Sunday for New Noize.

Dead orbit for life.

New Noise playlist action coming at ya. This past Sunday was stacked with jam after motherfuckin jam. New Wu Tang featuring Redman? YES PLEASE! According to the RZA this new full length Wu album was constructed my Mathematics, long time DJ for the entire Clan when they tour. This is contradicting RZA previous statements that Ghostface was producing this entire Clan record, unless Tony Starks is working on an additional Wu Tang album. The speculation continues as according to the RZA this album will be out this year, I’m not holding my breath.

Wu-Tang wasn’t the only one to drop new music. I finally got my hands on the full length for Queens of the Stone Age. The jury I out on how I feel about “Villains”, which is on the short side. I will give it a few listens and report my findings in the upcoming weeks. Other full lengths I highly recommend are Cloakroom’s “Time Well” and Zola Jesus’s “Okovi”.

Oh yeah and Ice Dragons are coming at ya in 2018.
