April Fools day and I got good this year. A bit of background, so on Sunday nights here at 92.9 KJEE we have 2 specialty shows. My show, New Noize, that runs from 9-11PM and the Reggae Soundclash that happens from 6-9PM. The Reggae Soundclash is commanded by the Cool Rullah, who has been doing the same show every Sunday night for over 20 something years! I make it a point to get to my shift early so me and the Rullah can do some crossover action before I get into my set. Last night he dropped a bomb saying that this was the last Reggae Soundclash, and I totally bit on the bait. I had a damn near emotional breakdown over the air as he is reinforcing this amazing lie.

We get off-air and I am saying my goodbyes, feeling pretty shocked and taken back by the news of his departure. I sit in my chain, start loading up my CDs, hit my Top of the Hour ID, and start writing out my playlist as my 1st track starts up. The 1st thing I write down it's the date of the show. As I was writing I got to this point:

4/1/20....HEY WTF YOU GOT ME GOOD COOL RULLAH. I truly felt like an April Fool.

So back to the MUSIC and Easter Sunday did not disappoint. I kicked off the show by diving deep into the new Hop Along record with "Look of Love" This band could have been from the 90's and I love this record. Goat Girl was a nice mix-up surprise but the one coming in way WAY out of left field was JFDR covering Frank Oceans "White Ferrari" This artist from Iceland does an even stranger version than the original and becomes heavily deconstructed and borderline noisy towards the tail end of this 5 minute plus jam.

Hour 2 and there was no shortage of amazing new music. Habibi is not only a popular Arabic word, it's now a pretty chilled out band with groovy tunes. Their EP "Cardamon Garden" is on the top of my everyday listening at this point. Say hello to new National! Guilty Party, "Yes and please sir may I have some more?" The doozy in hour #2 came from the thoty & naughty (her words not mine) Queen know as Lizzo. Her new single is called Fitness and its lavalishious. She is opening for Haim this Saturday at the SBBowl and you know your boy is gonna attend.

See you next Sunday.

Friends and lovers of new music here is another installation of New Noize, 2 hours of new music that is either out or coming out. This past Sunday we dove deep into some full-lengths as well as debuts some new singles.

I was a bit late to the game but I finally got around to playing the new Yoke Lore "Fake You", its pretty damn good.  That new Wallows track "Pictures of Girls" was also a break out track this past Sunday but if I had to pick 1 song that totally surprised me it was TT "Love Leaks" If the fuzzy guitars don't get you., that low-fi vibe will. Her voice compliments this song like a croissant in the early am with you favorite chai latte.

Talking about Chai, seriously what are you waiting for, but their new record "Pink". It's not on any music streaming site so you are gonna have to use other methods for now.

In other news, Pacific Rim 2 opened this weekend and you better bet this guy will be seeing it sometime this week. I'm all about Kiaju on Jaeger violence. Also, I didn't score the Tinker Jordan's, which makes me sad but at least my wallet wont get hit. OH AN BROLY WILL BE AVAILABLE AS DLC ON THE 28 IN DRAGONBALL FIGHTERZ!!!! If you have the game on the PlayStation, hit a dude up. OH and since I was talking Dragonball, what a great ending to a great series this past weekend. Dragon Ball Super may have had some issues, but all in all, it was a fantastic run and I look forward to the movie and hopefully the next installment soon.

Until next Sunday.

They say when it rains, it pours. Life has fully strapped me into a rollercoaster that is plummeting into an abyss of nothingness devoid of any type of anything. It's like Ryu keeps gut-punching me. I know it's a bit dramatic but drama happens. No need to go into details just know that even though things are super low, your boy will always be up to do New Noize every Sunday. Except for last Sunday, that was my bad.

This past Sunday I played a bit of catch up but nothing I couldn't have handled. That new Cut Chemist record "Die Cut" is bananas good. I also dive deep on the full lengths from preoccupations, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Durand Jones & the Indications, & Anja Kotar. OH AND NEW MOTHERFUCKING PEARL JAM (thanks 10 club). My big one came from Burger Records this week, CHAI has finally released a full length album. Back in 2016 I was in Japan and these locals told me about this Japanese band that started out as a duo, a set of sister twins to be specific. They eventually became a 4 piece and holy AWESOMENESS this records is bad ass. Pick up "Pink" by Chai is you can find it.

This past weekend Jack Johnson opened the SBBowl season with a benefit concert. Even though I worked for Jack Johnson for over 4 years I did not attend. 1 because I have no $$$ right now, 2 it's a benefit show so even if they did offer me free tickets I would feel bad, and 3 New Noize happens on Sunday night. Big ups to everyone that went. Jack brought on a bunch of guests including Ben Harper, ALO, David Crosby, & Kenny Loggins. All in all, it was a great time to be had by all. Also, Santa Barbara is once again bracing for a big storm to hit. Good luck 805 and I'll check ya next Sunday.
