Another Sunday means another New Noize in the books. The summertime is always the best time for new music and this week we a bevy of some slamming summer jamz.

1st hour the bar was set high debuting the new Mitski and her 3rd record cant coming any sooner. If this new album is anything like the last 2 Mistki records its gonna be another banger.

I also hit the new Das Body single "Boys", If you dont like this track then you don't like happiness.

At the end of hour 1, I let the metal out premiering new music from both SINSAENUM & Monstrosity.

Come Hour 2 there were more deep dives into new records from Gorillaz, NIN, Red Baraat, Nas, Snail Mail &  Don Bellenger (from the Black Future 88 OST). If you have not heard the new Hana Vu EP, its fantastic.

This week we celebrate AMERICA!!!! July 4th is almost upon us and I think well are excited and a bit confused celebrating the USA in the current climate we are in. Becuase of this unique situation I refer you to my previous post about Kracking the Kanye Kode. You can check the playlist here:

Bring the debate now through the 4th.

America, Fuck yeah.

You Are Listening to Kanye Wrong

I JUST KRACKED THE KANYE KODE!!!

2018 has been the year of Yeezy, there is no denying that fact regardless of what you think of the man. Releasing 5 albums over the course of 5 weeks, 36 tracks all produced by Kanye West (the Teyana Taylor record has 8 tracks, only Ye knows why) But It got me thinking, why would Kanye do something like this? Is there a secret code behind this madness? What more is there to discover?

A bit of background on myself for those not in the know. I am a radio DJ here in Santa Barbara and I have my own show called New Noize. Its a specialty all about new and upcoming music from all genres from all over the world. I am constantly working on my craft taking in as much new audio and trying to construct a 2-hour new music show that is a potpourri of new jams for the masses. In my curation process, I create various playlists, both on my iPod(yes I still have an old school iPod that holds about 80 gigs worth of music with no internet connection required) through iTunes and Spotify. Having done this professionally for 10+ years I have seen various patterns, styles and trends emerge from artists of this caliber.

giphy-1.gif

So we all know as of last week Kanye released his final album with Teyana Taylor to bring Yeezy Season to a close. So being the guy that I am, I created a playlist putting all the albums back to back to back to back to back. I would listen to this Kanye Kollection and then like a bolt of lighting from Yeezy himself I decided to construct a new Kanye Playlist where instead of putting his albums back to back, I isolated each track in order. So it goes something like this:

1. If You Know I Know _Pusha-T
1. I Thought About Killing You - Kanye
1. Feel the Love (feat. Pusha-T)-Kids See Ghosts
1. Not for Radio - NAS
1. No Manners -Teyana Taylor
2. Games We Play
2. Yikes
2. Fire
2. Cops Shot the Kids
2. Gonna Love Me
3. Hard Piano (feat Rick Ross)
3. All Mine (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & Valee)
3. 4th Dimension (feat. Louis Prima)
3. White Label
3. Issues / Hold On
4. Come Back Baby
4. Wouldn’t Leave (feat. Jeremih, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Ty Dolla $ign)
4. Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2) (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)
4. Bonjour (feat. Tony Williams)
4. Hurry (Ft. Kanye West)
5. Santeria
5. No Mistakes (feat. Charlie Wilson and Kid Cudi)
5. Reborn
5. Everything (feat. The-Dream)
5. 3Way (Ft. Ty Dolla $ign)
6. What Would Meek Do? (feat Kanye West
6. Ghost Town (feat. 070 Shake, Kid Cudi, and PARTYNEXTDOOR)
6. Kids See Ghosts (feat. Yasiin Bey)
6. Adam and Eve (feat. The-Dream)
6. Rose In Harlem
7. How Do You Respond
7. Violent Crimes (feat. 070 Shake, Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign)
7. Cudi Montage
7. Simple Things
7. Never Would Have Made It
8. WTP (Ft. Mykki Blanco)

In the creation of this master playlist I noticed that certain track titles made sense coming one after another. Is this coincidence or have I stumbled upon the codex of Kanye? I mean look at some of these blatant patterns:

2. Games We Play
2. Yikes
2. Fire
2. Cops Shot the Kids

3. Issues / Hold On
4. Come Back Baby
4. Wouldn’t Leave (feat. Jeremih, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Ty Dolla $ign)
4. Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2) (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)
4. Bonjour (feat. Tony Williams)
4. Hurry (Ft. Kanye West)
5. Santeria
5. No Mistakes (feat. Charlie Wilson and Kid Cudi)
5. Reborn
5. Everything (feat. The-Dream)
5. 3Way (Ft. Ty Dolla $ign)

6. Ghost Town (feat. 070 Shake, Kid Cudi, and PARTYNEXTDOOR)
6. Kids See Ghosts (feat. Yasiin Bey)
6. Adam and Eve (feat. The-Dream)

But if you start diving deep using all of these tracks in this specific order I laid out this playlist makes sense. For me this is more than just a coincidence. There are tons and tons of articles/videos about Kanye's producing process and his insane ability to sample from so many sources. It's been my experience when patterns emerge like this, it's is done with intent.

The real "OH SNAPS" moments happens when you actually listen to this playlist in this order. The musical production, lyrics, themes and feel just flow and makes sense with the underlying story Kanye is trying to tell. Has Kanye gone FULL Kubrick? Maybe. Am I pulling at straws finding coincidence with no real meaning behind them? Probably. Much like Nicolas Cage in National Treasure I have discovered something that people will talk about for decades to come. I feel like Tom Hanks in DaVinci code only I am dealing with the Kult of Kanye. I have posted this article to reddit in the hopes that this community and all other music aficionados, conspiracy theorists and general population could contribute to my discovery and crack the code. Maybe Mr. West himself will chime in to either debunk this discovery or empower my Carmen Sandiego skills. All in all, it was a fun ride.

EID MUBARAK!!! I took off last Sunday to celebrate Eid with all my brothers and sisters so no New Noize last Sunday but I'm BACK. This years Ramadan was a bit rough but some amazing things happened. Kanye was in full "Yeezy Season" mode releasing 4 new records during the holy month including Nas' new album ON EID! Coincidence? I don't think so. Talking Kanye I did go to the Kid Kudi x Kanye listening party a few weeks back, scratch that off the "Once in a Lifetime" bucket list.

This past Sunday/Saturday I scored tickets to see Vampire Weekend in Ojai CA, specifically at the Libby bowl. It was a fantastic weekend. Ojai is a beautiful corner in California and I have lived here since 04 yet never visiting. I feel like I have missed out on this local secret hideaway. Saturday night Vampire Weekend played for what felt like over 2 hours, playing their 1st record cover to cover in order, as it was the 10 year anniversary of their self-titled debut record. After playing their 1st record, they decided to play for an extra 70-90 minutes. 1/2 way through the show I had to take a relieve myself and a friend said the bathroom was around the corner. I proceeded to move with purpose and wound up backstage yelling "Wheres the FUCKING BATHROOM" then outta nowhere, Jonah Hill and his hot pink hair lightly tapped my shoulder and said in a most soothing voice "It's over there" and pointed. I said thanks and not only did what I had to do but ended up hanging back there for the rest of the show and ate some of their backstage pizzas. Rashida Jones was there, I said wassup, she said hi and that was that. Ezra was hanging back there and I said hello to him as well, he didn't full on recognize me initially, but after a brief conversation about both of us being from NJ he recalled that this conversation felt a bit familiar. Me and Ezra 1st met backstage after their SxSW show down in Austin TX and after reminding him of that fact we are now best friends. My music director and all around amazing friend dude hooked me and Hillary (a fellow radio human) with after party wristbands and you know we went. It was chill and oh so much fun. I paid for this fun on Sunday when Vampire Weekend played again, but this time it was a day show that started around 11ish. I was pretty hurt cause I drank all the beers last night but was able to rally back about 20 mins into their Sunday set, which happened to be at least 90 mins long. I have seen Vampire Weekend a few times before, and their shows never go past the 45-minute marks so seeing them play for this long at a venue this small (holds less than 1,000 people) was a real treat. It was truly a Vampire Weekend.

So getting back to New Noize which did happen this past Sunday and I was back in full form. Not 1 snoozer on this packed 2 hour playlist.

I got Political with the IDLES pro-immigrant song "Danny Nedelko" which went right into Bad Religion's "The Kids are Alt-Right". Cigarettes After Sex dropped "Crush", a surprise single to celebrate their 1 year anniversary of their 1st record.

Hour 2 I busted open a deep cut from Nine Inch Nails new ep "Bad Witch"(which is great cover to cover) and you should add that to your daily commute ASAP. The next track I had to work for. As you know already I love video games and video game music needs to be highlighted. I came across this trailer for a game called "Black Future 88":

And had to contact the game developer to find out how I can get this on my show. Lucky for me the developer is also the composer and hooked me up with a few tracks to share over the airwaves. You will definitely hear more of this soundtrack over the next few Sundays on New Noize.

I was also mad hyped to drop some new music by Red Baraat. All their titles are in Urdu and I know Urdu plus they play South Asian Fusion music and I am South Asian. It's good stuff and you should check it out when you get a chance.

Thanks for stopping by.

I saw Kanye!!!! Yup I was one of the few (or many deepening on your POV) that got invited to witness the Kanye West x Kid Kudi album listening party. I know I was surprised when I got he cloak and dagger email from def jam records. I was told to go to in Hollywood and then get bussed to "a secret location" in Santa Clarita with a bunch for industry folks. As soon as I arrived to the actual listing party it was packed with other radio ppl, record label peoples, crazy amounts of models and so many hip-hop heads. I shook down with RZA and could have left after that, but I stayed. Saw Damon Dash talking with Irv Gotti. Legit hung out with Lizzo, who is awesome and fun. Kanye at one point was like 2 feet away from my face, he saw me & gave me the nod (I was on cloud 9999). Kid Kudi actually walked up to me and asked me who I was & how I was doing. He was really nice for the 3 minutes we talked, then as he was leaving he hit me with Assalamualaikum?! I was like how does this dude know I am Muslim? Then I remembered I am still in Ramadan and wore my Pakistani hoodie, it MADE MY NIGHT! Kim Kardashian is pretty short in real life. I got free merch, and food (burgers, fried chicken, collard greens, Mac and Cheese, plus more. I was a fan.

Talking fans IT'S e3. E3 is my Super Bowl nd this year's installment is pretty good. Surprisingly Microsoft had a solid e3, but as I type this PlayStation has not done their keynote. Looking forward to the rest of e3 and be sure come next New Noize I will have a full recap of all the things I wanna talk about.

This week's New Noize playlist brought you a bunch of new music from bands you already know. New Smashing Pumpkins, Interpol, Ghost, Neko Case and the Mad Caddies. Talking Mad Caddies their latest LP is all cover songs, and you know I love me a motherf*cj=king cover song. I also dropped new cover by Meiko, who covers Portishead's "Wandering Star". Surprise EP drop by Daniel Avery and its excellence. Big ups to Kiefer, I have been following him on Instagram and it's always nice to see him get some shine as his new record is out right now on Stonesthrow. Kanye 3rd drop in the past 3 weeks and its the best one yet! Kids See Ghosts is a collab album between himself and Kid Kudi AND EVERY TRACK IS A BANGER! Grab it and listen to it over and over.

Programming note I will be not doing New Noize next week as its Eid weekend, holla at all your Muslims.
