What a weekend. Lets talk Oscars, specifically Parasite! I love Korean film and this is long overdue. Despite the Oscars being extremely white this year somehow Parasite wound up being the big winners of the evening. I have always been a fan of Bong Joon Ho and the Host is still my favorite film out of all his work but if you haven't seen Parasite see it!

I also ended up at a secret location Saturday night/Sunday morning and watched Four Tet. He started spinning at 11PM and I left at 4:30AM and he was still going strong. I’m getting too old for these all nighters but extremely glad I went. He went hard the entire night and mixed in some serious drum and bass along with everything else, truly a magical evening.

New Noize was a lot of search and find. I had to reach out for a few of these selections including the new Raveena, Nicolas Jaar, envy (Yes the "envy" from Japan) & Phonetic Hero. For all you gamers you are reading this correctly, I somehow managed to get all the new tracks for the free Wargroove update "Double Trouble" If you like tactical games (spiritual successor to Advanced Wars) luscious pixel art and a slammingly good soundtrack Wargroove should be played immediately.

See you post Valentines Day and if by the off chance you will be in LA that weekend, I WILL BE at the Bat for Lashes Valentines Day show at the Ace.

Hope everyone's post Super Bowl hangover is going well. I didn't indulge since I had to do New Noize later that evening but did get to watch this exciting game and big ups to Andy Reid finally winning a Super Bowl and getting that ring. HUGE surprise, this years halftime show was great! Shakira middle eastern shout-out was a big moment that a lot of news outlets and other humans are poking fun at but I don't see these same people making fun of all the belly dancing and other Arabic touches, just saying.

Anyways after the game I got on the airwaves to deliver another highly curated 2 hour show. This Sunday featured a lot of new music which included a deeper look into the new Baba Ali, Squirrel Flower and one of my favorite records of 2020 so far the new Caspian album. I also premiered the new Gorillaz & Daniel Avery & Alessandro Cortini singles at the top of the 1st hour.

Will there be another New Noize this Sunday? You know there will be and I best see you there!

HAPPY (late) CHINESE NEW YEAR. I was giving out a lot of red envelopes this past Saturday night in LA during a friend's birthday party. So much Chinese food and Moet was consumed by the end of the evening EVERYONE knew how I felt about them. Needless to say it was a grand time.

This weekend also brought a whole new New Noize. Its kinda like the Grammy’s only it happens every Sunday. Talking about the Grammy’s it was pretty solid, and big ups to brother sister duo Billie Eilish & Finneas O'Connell slaughtering the competition and winning all the Grammy’s that count. My favorite moment was when Tyler the Creator accepted his award and had his Mom crying (as she should) and his best friend/collaborator Jasper (with his Nintendo switch in had) flanking each of his sides. It was a great moment:

Getting back to New Noize there were some standout moments throughout these 2 hours. I dove deep on some full lengths including the new Okay Kaya & of Montreal. I finally got around to editing/cleaning up the new Mac Miller so my apologies for not spinning it sooner. My biggest surprise was the new track by Eye Flys and the new single from Sotomayor. Also had a bit of a "moment" on-air when trying to pronounce the single from 6TH CROWD. Lets just say I found out the hard way I can't read Russian.

Lastly the nation has been rocked by the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and everyone else in that helicopter. I can not say anything that has not already been said about this so I will leave you with this. Life is promised to no one so LOVE the people that you love, and forgive the people you don't.

Until next Sunday.

Everything made it

It's award season! This weekend saw the SAG Awards as well as the AFC/NFC championships (congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers). Locally we have the Santa Barbara International Film Festival flooding these SB streets with new movies, star studded panels discussions and some fun after parties.

This Sunday also saw a brand new New Noize and it went DOWN! This week's session was especially diverse in both flavor and substance. Hour 1 we went pure indie rock and got a little political towards the end and the beginning of hour 2. Eminem dropped a surprise record and I don't know how I feel about this new approach of not letting anyone know something new is coming. Call me a romantic but I'm all about the build up. Nevertheless I'm not mad a new Slim Shady record in this world. King Krule record is about to drop and in the upcoming weeks as well as the new Sepultura (don’t worry they both will be amazing, I can feel it)

Pull in next Sunday when we do this all again live at 92.9 KJEE.
