Saw The Chemical Brothers last night at the 2023 concert season opener at the Santa Barbara Bowl and what a way to start. Overmono opened with a solid DJ set. The Chem Bros got on a bit late but played an almost 2 hour set. Having such a huge catalog was not an issue, they hit you off with melodies of your fav cuts covering a large portion of their archive. The stage production was top tier, I mean how many times do we get coachella headliners play the SBBowl. What a night.

There was also New Noize!

New Noize Song of the Week goes to Nabihah Iqbal with "Dreamer". Ninja Tune A&R getting it done signing this artist and I am starved for more. She has a few songs out right now and I highly recommend checking them out. It seems like she is trying to figure out her sound but that is not a problem, in fact it's pretty refreshing.

New Noize Album of the Week goes to Miesha and the Spanks with "Unconditional Love in Hi-Fi" (out now on Mint) . It's very punk but not necessarily punk music. It blends a few rock genres but doesn't feel forced, rather very natural with chaotic riffs, fun melodies and loud noises galore.

THERE WILL BE NO NEW NOIZE until May. For those in the Tri-State, mainly in NYC and NJ hit me up for hangs or don't and suffer from the absence of my presence. Also taking suggestions on what to do for the nine days I will be in NYC. I'm talking eats, spots to see and events to attend. So far I got M83 and going to a Yankees game.

See you in a few Sundays.

Kaiju is out the bag, your boy is coming back to punch his east coast card post Eid so to my tri-state people book your real time hangouts, space is limited and going fast.

New Noize went off this week! I kicked off the show with Overmono followed by The Chemical Brothers who are the season openers this Sunday at the Santa Barbara Bowl. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS IS NOT SOLD OUT, but it's not & hopefully I'll be attending this show.

Feeble Little Horse "Steamroller", out now on Saddle Creek, snatched up the New Noize Track of the Week. Moreish Idols, Mudhoney, and Baxter Dury are all tracks you should check out as well.

Album of the Week was a bit harder to pick. Fly Anakin's new EP is all bangers, Wednesday's "Rat Saw God" is a killer record but for this past Sunday the phenom known as Yaeji finally released her first studio album "With a Hammer" and has achieved the "New Noize Album of the Week" status. I am so bummed that I will be missing her set in SLO next week. This record is thick with the abstract colliding into cohesion to create these magical landscapes that Yaeji skips through effortlessly smashing everything in her path.

April also means NEW SPRING ANIME!!!! So far we have got some HEAT. Demon Slayer is back and opened with a 50 minute episode and every frame made me scream. Sulletta aka the Witch from Mercury season 2  picks up the action on Earth. I'm here to see what other Gundam frames show up. Hell's Paradise aka my 2023 contender for best new IP anime dropped episode 2 and the violence did not disappoint.

Star Wars had a weekend with a ton of announcements but the best one by far had to be my favorite Jedi "I'm no Jedi" Ashoka Tano is back! Hype levels are over 9000.

I'll catch you next Sunday for another New Noize set then we will hit a 2 weekend hiatus. Details to come...

Feelings are dumb sometimes but you aren't here to hear about my emotional state, you are here for that new new, which I got but I'm going to keep this write up on the brief side.

Album of the Week goes to Louis VI with "Earthling". This entire record is a vibe. Jazzy, R&B and a continuous grove of cool makes this the perfect low key spring LP that will delight the senses front to back. Get with your partner, turn the lights to low and throw this on, TRUST FAM.

After almost 15 years Be Your Own Pet is back with their new single "Grenade" on Jack White's Third Man record label and I am elated. BYOP was one of my first interviews way back in the early days of New Noize and to see the band back without missing a step puts an extra beat in my heart. "Grenade" is letting the world know that BYOP is back loudly disregarding any formalities.

Congrats to Arslan Ash for being the Tekken Champ at the Japanese EVO this past weekend and he did it while on Ramadan. Check out the final:

Catch you next week.

What an exciting weekend in new music. Let's jump right in.

A bunch of quality LPs dropped this past week including BABYMETAL, Dick Stusso, 6LACK, DERBY FRIDAY, Navy Blue & Lana Del Rey and none of them are the New Noize Album of the Week? So who grabbed the golden ring? JPEGMAFIA x Danny Brown dropped a ridiculously alt hip hop collab record aptly named "SCARING THE HOES" and the best part is it's a bandcamp "name your own price" record.

TANGENT: Any collective/artist brave enough to do a "name your own price" on bandcamp is something you should cop. Simply put these types of releases show how confident the artist is in their work and should be supported.

What can I say about this record, it's a straight blindside hit that will concuss you into a world of MCing and avant garde type music production. This record reminds me of early 2000s late night adult swim. The album tells you right in the title what you are about to experience and when you let this piece ride you are NOT ready. Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA play off each other's chaotic flows with this bombastic garage rock-esque production that feels like the 90s but has that 2023 "the earth is on fire" apocalyptic vibe. Sounds familiar and fleeting with a whole lotta fun mixed in. I LOVE THIS RECORD. It's loud, unapologetic and gets me to ultra instinct levels. BANGER.

Staying on the colab train, "RR" is an EP that brings Rauw Alejandro & Rosalía together and sun you best watch out for "VAMPIROS". This track makes me wish I knew more spanish.

We are getting to episodes 12/13 in this season of anime which means NEW ANIME is about to start including Hell's Paradise. It starts April 1st and I ain't fooling when I say this will be the standout new IP in 2023.

Also I will be making some vaca moves, Tri-State I'm coming to punch my east coast card. I will let all interested parties know wassup.
