Before I start I made a mistake. It doesn't happen often but some things fly over and under my radar. Apparently, back in February, I missed one of the best albums of 2023 so apologies as I just discovered this gem of a record so you know I put it in last night's mix. Who am I talking about? Straight from South Korea Parannoul with After the Magic. WHAT A RECORD. This has all the things I like, post-rock, bright highlights with melodic grungy grooves that would drive any Sonic Youth nostalgia seeker wild in a good way. This record will be on many people's "top 10 best of 2023" and rightfully so. Again,  After the Magic came out in February so it doesn't get the coveted Album of the Week but it does get the "Oops how did I miss that" pick of the week.

So what did get the New Noize Album of the Week? Creep Show & John Grant with "Yawning Abyss". It has this strange 80s-type archetypal electronic sound feel coupled with fuzziness that has a very Tabbacoo lite touch. It's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously so it's high on the carefree meter. I think it's worth your time. Honorable mentions go to the new Portugal the Man & Militarie Gun records. Both deserve your time and should be in your summer rotation.

The New Noize Song of the Week goes to the collab we all needed in 2023 Beck & Phoenix's "Odyssey" Much like the NN Album of the Week this song is just fun in the sun. The only bad thing about this track is that there is not more. Anderson Paak & Bruno Mars set the world on fire with Silk Sonic last year & I can see that kind of success with Beck & Phoenix getting together on an LP but unfortunately, this is all we get, unless...

Catch you cats next week.

Juneteenth is here and so is the New Noize update.

Every week we get killer records, whoever said 2023 was mid for music is not listening to the right things. New Queens of the Stone Age record "In Times New Roman" is everything you want in a Queens record. Sexy, grungey, fuzzy, and suggestive in all the right places. The new Killer Mike record "MICHEAL" is as the artist himself puts it "So Atlanta". From the beats to the features, this album will go down as a classic hip-hop record in 20 years. Don't believe me? We will argue come 2043.  King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard deliver on another concept record "PetroDragonic Apocalypse" It truly shaves most metal records with its aggressiveness. If you know my show then you know that this band is gonna always grabs the New Noize Album of the Week cause they are that great, but this time they had help. "Bright New Disease" by Boris & Uniform dropped on Friday and what a collaboration. If you are new to Boris this is an excellent place to start. These 2 bands coming together and combining their audio signatures is fun to listen to. Very metal and very good you should pop this one into your weekly rotation.

I started New Noise with the New Noize Song of the Week coming in hot CHAI with "PARA PARA" These ladies have really grown and come into their own style and this single covers this progression. CHAI first and foremost is carefree in its style but not in its sound. You will get it if you listen.

Here in Santa Babara, the sun is flirting, and every time she shows up so do I. This solstice will bring new connections as we come together to celebrate the longest day of the year.

See you next week.

I was hit with a sonic avalanche of new music this past week and I gladly accepted my fate. Welcome to another edition of New Noize.

So many records came out this Friday that it was a bit overwhelming but I made it work. We had albums drop from Janelle Monae, Baxter Dury, Squid, Christine and the Queens, feeble little horse, King Krule, Jenny Lewis, Half Moon Run, and more. Anyone of these could have been the New Noize Album of the Week so I went with the Japanese Canadian outfit known as TEKE::TEKE with "Hagata". They have been spoon-feeding us singles for this new record all year and to hear “Hagata" cover to cover is a treat. I have been a fan of this band for a while and fingers crossed I get to see them do their thing live. On a serious note, all of these artists deserve your time.

No surprise to anyone ROSALÍA locked down the New Noize Song of the Week with "TUYA"

I am working on getting music for some upcoming video game releases including some gaming music that came out earlier this year on the set next week. Talking about gaming what a time to be alive! Final Fantasy XVI had a great weekend event culminating in dropping the demo at 1 am today. Did I download it? Yes. Did I play it at 1 am when it dropped? Yes. This is what happens when you are single in your 40s. I still am nowhere near completing Legend Of Zelda Tear of the Kingdom, haven't cracked open the new Street Fighter and I haven't even talked about some other upcoming releases. ALSO, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (which I am hoping comes out on my birthday next year cause the last one did) is releasing on 2 ps5 discs!!! That is insane.

I'll catch you cats next week.

Hey yo, another New Noize has come and gone. So what happened?

Look at that playlist. I mean what a mix. Seriously I went through my own list of specialty shows that came out this past weekend and I just killed it. Sometimes you have to be your own hype man.

New Noize Song of the Week goes to Blonde Redhead with "Snowman" If you are a Blonde Redhead fan and are in LA this week they are playing the Zebulon this Wednesday.

The New Noize Album of the Week goes to Khanate with "To Be Cruel" This album came out of nowhere as the band hasn't been a band for something like 14 years. It's only 3 tracks and over 1 hour long! This experimental doom outfit is not for everyone but if you like this style this will look amazing on you, trust.

I also saw the new Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse and OMA this one hits. I didn't think it could get better than the first one that came out in 2018 but they did it! What a sequel. This trilogy will be up there with Star Wars (the OG 3) and the Matrix trilogies. There is so much more I want to say but won't cause spoilers. I want to thank the creators who included South Asian Spider-Man, and yes, I am jealous of that hair.
