According to the internet, SoCal isn't going to see sunlight for a few weeks but that won't hinder me from bringing you the best of the best when it comes to new music, this is the New Noize recap.

I create my final set on Sunday mornings just in case I have to slip something in last minute which happens to be pretty common. This Sunday I dealt with my 2nd biggest issue when trying to create a weekly new music show, too much new music. I have to program under 2 hours of music and this past Sunday I had to cut almost 50 minutes worth of quality audio. I love having this problem and apologize to all the artists that didn't make the cut.

This was a fun set. Kim Gordon (plus she is playing in Ventura in late March), Khruangbin, & whistling virtuoso Molly Lewis were just some of the new music I mixed this past Sunday. We got into some chiptune with Disrupt's "Arcade Addict", punked out with Pissed Jeans on  "Moving On", and praised all the metal Ingested brought with their new single "Paragon of Purity". Hell I even played this banger from Creepy Nuts off the Mashle season 2 OP for all my anime fans

Trust I have been doing that dance every time I hear it.

The New Noize Song of the Week goes to who else but the IDLES. "Gift Horse" is the 3rd single off the highly anticipated TANGK which is out next month.

Some fantastic full-lengths came out including one of my personal favorites Sleater-Kinney. Yes, the ladies from Olympia Washington are back with a celebration of all things Sleater-Kinney. Both me and Mariah Carrey have been long long-time fans and you should check out "Little Rope" cover to cover. The new Slime EP "Explorer Series, Vol 1" is all over the place in all the right ways. "Beyond the Warrior's Eyes", the new album by Brian Tarquin & Heavy Friends is straight-up blouse button-busting music. The New Noize Album of the Week goes to PACKS with "Melt the Honey". It's subtly sad on the upside. It sounds like not having a job and caring but not to the point where it's going to ruin your day because you smoke weed and have a plan that you will get to tomorrow.

It has taken me years to have these amazing music critiques take notes hommie.

Hurdling through time and space is happening right now and so is the New Noize write-up. We had a Monday off because of an Iconic American who made change a reality but as a son of NJ I know we have to do better to execute the dream Martin Luther King Jr had.

Talking about doing better this update comes on a Tuesday cause of Monday's day of observation and nonwork so apologies to all that were waiting on this.

New Noize was pretty fun this past Sunday. It started light-heartedly and got heavy towards the end.

January is especially exciting because a lot of artists/bands are releasing singles for their upcoming projects. Now I dont know if 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE is planning an LP drop in 2024 but here is another single out of the 88rising camp that knocks HARD featuring Ricky Rose and Rich Brian. I had to pick “1999” for the New Noize Song of the Week.

Album of the Week goes to the one and only Kid Cudi with "INSANO". This album is chest out I don't care what you are holding all confidence I can't miss type record. Production is classic Cudi and the features are slipped in the sweetest spots like one of those kitbashed Gunlapa to create a record that sets the tone for all other commercial hip-hop. This is the bar.

ALSO WTF IDLES?!?!?!?! They decided to release another single from their upcoming February release TANGK this past Monday. MY SHOW IS ON SUNDAY GUYS! Check out this banger, “Gift Horse”, which wasn't on my show but is still a rad AF song and will be on my upcoming set Sunday.

This past weekend saw some NFL playoff action and this NY Giants fans was bathing in the tears of the Cowboys and Eagles. There is something that fills my soul with joy watching the hopes and dreams of these sports fans get destroyed especially as both teams played terribly. My hate cup overnight.

See you next week

Let me be the last to say happy 2024! We are in the Year of the Dragon and I for one am looking forward to all that new dragon feel.

Speaking of "new" New Noize is back. My set did include some things that came out in the last few weeks of 2023 including all the new music I could get my hands on in the past 7 days or so. Do you know how hard it is to get someone from a label to get back to you during winter break? Next to impossible, trust sun.

ANYWAYS

The New Noize Song of the Week goes to SLIFT with "Weaver's Weft" I need this new album whenever it decides to come out and if the record expands on what this single sounds like we are in for one hell of a ride. For transparency, SLIFT has released 3 songs off their upcoming record, ILION (out on the 19th) and each song is over 9 minutes long. I'm confident SLIFT will be receiving the New Noize Album of the Week later this month.

The New Noize EP of the Week is "Hot Air Ballon" by Pile. Who else would it be? Following up their 2023 LP "For Fiction" (which came out this past February), "Hot Air Ballon" sounds more like an epilogue than a collection of b-sides. "Hot Air Ballon" carries over this subdued sound from "For Fiction" but is way more refined and less experimental with less chaos than its 2023 full-length counterpart.  Will Pile come out with a full length to follow up on this 2024 1st week release? I hope so.

For those that care aka my real ones, I have moved the "Best of 2023 New Noize" to its own dedicated playlist here:

You can now listen to this or any of my "Best of" playlists on my Spotify page.

Will I be posting Dragon gifs on these write-ups for the rest of the year? Check-in with me come December.

WE DID IT! What a year 2023 has been! So much amazing music came out and I tried to tackle all of it.

First and foremost thanks for listening. I am a one-man show so if I missed anything apologies. These “wrap-up-the-year shows” are always my most stressful sets, especially when figuring out what goes where and cutting out over 4 hours of music. Regardless here is the final product. 50 tracks, mostly all from an EP or LP the rest are singles. This "best of" list is very different from other wrap-up lists from outlets like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Anthony Fantano, and Stereogum but just as important if not more so. So if you are sick of hearing the same "Best Of" list from all these respected outlets I GOT YOU. Feel free to hype this on your own or share it with a friend or foe I don’t discriminate

This was the last New Noize show of the year, but I will be back in 2024 where we will start all this new music discovery back up.
