Another New Noize in the books, and the soundscape was more laid-back than I expected—but no complaints.

Song of the Week goes to feeble little horse for "This Is Real." It starts off soft, then explodes into a cacophony of feedback and indie goodness. feeble little horse is back, and after hearing this, all I want is a new record.

How is no one talking about this album? Seriously—no big outlets are covering this killer record. Dead Channel Sky by clipping. is obliterating any notion of genre boundaries. Revolutionary lyricism paired with frantic, shape-shifting production that jumps from jungle to industrial to chiptune and beyond. Sub Pop has done it again.

See you next week.

A lot of important things happened on March 9th. Albert Potts patented the street mailbox in 1858. Barbie made her debut in 1959. Biggie Smalls was murdered in L.A. in 1997. But the most significant event for humanity?I was birthed into existence.

This year hit different—it was a Ramadan birthday. Instead of the usual blowout, it was a solo, silent day of reflection. 45 years in, and I’ve survived it all. Reality stays testing ya boy’s Deen, but we’re still here, still moving. And this year was extra special because it was a New Noize Birthday! So, how’d it go?

Song of the Week goes to Car Seat Headrest for dropping a 10-minute epic called "Gethsemane." It’s fantastic.

Album of the Week is Eternal Reverie by TOKiMONSTA, and what a celebration of her career. This record is thick with personal moments, layered behind vistas of melodies and grooves that make you want to move—even if you’re fasting. A summer record that landed before summer, so get into it.

Oh, and I do a birthday playlist every year. This year’s theme? All songs I’ve seen live. Throw it on and enjoy.

See you next week...

The Oscars went down last night, and let me tell you, Doja Cat made a triumphant return to the silver screen, delivering her rendition of "Diamonds Are Forever." Her fellow Bond girls, Lisa and [insert name], did their thing, but Doja brought a different energy—it was like watching a Bond villain in action. Not sure why the Oscars decided to throw in a Bond medley, especially with no new 007 flicks out, but hey, I was here for it. The rest of the show? It was alright.

But you know what show truly shook the earth this Sunday? New Noize. See what I did there? March just kicked off, and I'm already trimming at least an hour from the set before cracking the mic at 9 PM. So, if you don't see a song that you know is new, my bad. I'm trying to tell a story, paint a picture, translate to your inner nexus, and I've got less than two hours to do it.

This past Sunday was no different—I dropped a ton of new bangers for the people. The New Noize Song of the Week goes to Momma's "Bottle Blonde." To be honest, this should be in regular rotation at the station I work at, and that's a good thing. It's a fun jam, but it also makes me crave this record already! It's shaping up to be a big release for the band, and I can't wait to hear more. For now, rock "Bottle Blonde" as frequently as possible.

The New Noize Album of the Week is "City of Clowns," which sounds terrifying, but it's the hyper opposite. Marie Davidson has essentially crafted a modern-day electro record. That's the best way for me to describe it—she pulls a lot from '80s motifs using current technology, creating this fantastic ride full of grooves, breakbeats, and endless melodies. For example, the track I played on last night's set, "Statistical Modelling," sounds like it came off the Afrika Bambaataa spaceship, only 40 years later. And man, this white woman is killing it. Does Egyptian Lover know about her? I MUST MANIFEST THIS COLLAB. There are a ton of electronic elements woven throughout this record, some aggressive (kind of like Aphex Twin but cohesive), especially in the latter part of this record. If you're looking to rock your next iftar after the uncles and aunties pass out, this is what you bang while sippin' on that Rooh Afza.

To my Muslim fam: Remember, we massive & we got each other during this Ramadan. Hang in there.

See you next Sunday for an EXTRA SPECIAL New Noize. Can you guess why? For real, do you know why?

As the rest of the country shivers through a deep freeze, we here in SoCal are basking in an unexpected pocket of summer. But we’re not here to talk about the weather…

New Noize this past Sunday was a ride—one of those sets that had a groovy belly to it. Listen to the playlist, and you’ll get what I mean.

This week finally brought us Saya Gray’s new album, "SAYA." It felt like forever waiting for this one, but in reality, she’s been rolling out singles since October. My internal longing clearly messed with my sense of time. Either way, it’s here, and it delivers. Saya weaves effortlessly through genres, pulling elements together in ways that shouldn’t work—but do. A prime example? "EXHAUSTING THE TOPIC"—country twang meets alternative textures, indie chords, harp strings, and subtle electronic flourishes. It’s the kind of song that makes you feel like you’re on a summer road trip, lost in thought. Album of the Week? No question.

Song of the Week? Now that was a tough one.

So many standouts in this set.

  • Kicked things off with a 9+ minute Melvins track into one of my favorite new artists, spill tab (whose new record I’m HIGHLY anticipating).

  • Lionmilk’s "get high" is aggressively laid-back.
I love everything about that new JENNIE & Doechii single, "ExtraL."

  • That Toro Y Moi & Kenny Beats track "Daria"? Straight-up jam.

  • And don’t even get me started on Miso Extra’s "Ghostly"—so good it makes me mad.

But the New Noize Song of the Week? That would belong to Suki Waterhouse’s "Dream Woman." I thought she was done dropping new music last year, but I was wrong—and I’m glad I was. This single gives off that "I might just drop another record this year" energy. Maybe it’ll be an EP, maybe she gives Memoir of a Sparklemuffin the deluxe treatment—whatever she and Sub Pop decide, I’m here for all of it.

Before I sign off I just want to send love to my Muslim fam—we are MASSIVE, and come Friday, we all walk the path of Ramadan, whether we can fast or not. This year’s gonna be extra for ya boy in all aspects, but that’s what it’s about.

Get in all the haram now, brothers and sisters.

See y’all next week.
