Viva La Fiesta, is what we here in Santa Barbara say during Fiesta. It is a cultural celebration here in SB and for the rest of the year confetti will be showing up in the strangest of places. So many other things happened including me making the local news. Relax, I was talking about food.

Prey the new Predator movie is out on Hulu and what a great addition to the series. Highly recommend and imma say it now, top 10 sci fi movies of 2022 hands down

The Sandman is out on Netflix and I am currently crushing this 10 episodic run. I have not completed but what I have seen I LOVE. Let me be clear, the Sandman is one of my favorite comic book runs and frankly speaking stories. Personally I think this is Neil Gaiman's best work and I was hyper critical going into this Netflix adaptation. I am happy to report that I love what they have seen and it was worth the wait. It was cast beautifully, the way they weave the storyline is fantastic especially with how much ground/lore they cover. I look forward to finishing up the series later this week.

The big BIG thing this weekend was Evo, or said properly for the normals, Evolution 2022. It is the one of the oldest "global esports tournaments" and centers around fighting games. Being Pakistani you don't see our names in lights but Fate Khan & Arslan Ashe represented by taking 2nd & 3rd in the Tekken7 Tournament. Knee(from S Korea) was too strong this time out. It was also the 1st time we saw a Guilty Gear game close out the tournament. Why? OVER 2000 people from around the world came to Las Vegas to compete in just that game! Evo is unique in eSports (and to be real any sport) because it is all inclusive. It doesn't matter you global rank, amateur or professional, sex, age, height, color, culture or background. Meaning a total no one could come in and decimate the competition or you can play a professional and watch yourself get bodied. I didn't go to Evo this year, but fingers crossed for the future. For those that know I play and consider myself part of the FGC (fighting game community) but by no means am I worthy or have the skill set to be ranked. Despite this lack of skill I will take on anyone who wants some.

Oh and there was New Noize! In fact since Rebultion was in town, on a Sunday the normal Reggae DJ was out, again. So Captain Freiza showed up. ANYWAYS...

...Album of the Week goes to Cheekface with "Too Much to Ask". Don't let their sense of humor fool you, there is a lot they are talking about, they just have a nonchalant expression which works for me.

The New Noize Song of the Week belongs to Palm with "Feathers" I can't wait to hear what the whole LP sounds like.

See you next Sunday.

August cometh and all sorts of heat is oozing out including yesterday's show. Crazy to think there is only 5 months left in 2022 & I for one am just ramping up.

TBH I didn't want to do this past Sunday's show, I would have rather gone to Red Hot Chili Peppers playing with Thundercat & Beck down at SoFi but that rock gods had other plans. Those plans were staying in Santa Barbara and doing New Noize.

The radio show was pretty extra last night. There was something truly for everyone during the 2 hour set.

Beyonce dropped a record so by the laws that govern this world and the next Renaissance is your New Noize Album of the Week. This record is 97% bangers. All the tracks can and will be club singles. I played THIQUE but I could have played just about anything off this album and it would still melt every speaker tuned into the KJEE frequency.

New Noize's Song of the Week was a bit more difficult to pick. I went with Ginger Root's new one "Holy Hell". I really don't know much about this cat but damn this single is smooth and goes ALL OVER THE PLACE! This has a touch of Toro y Moi & MNDSGN which is an extremely good thing. I'd love to see this play in a full length release.

Specail honors goes out to Goatwhore's newest single "Born of Satan's Flesh". These humans are finally back and I'm really hoping we will get a full length which builds on this specific sound. The change ups happen fast and as soon as you notice they switch it back, flip it upside down and pull you inside out. It's a rollercoaster ride of pure metal and I want to go again.

Until next Sunday...

We in July but I'm looking at the horizon of the immediate future and things are weird. I had to cancel my NYC trip for next month and I am still mad about it. But I am going for a quick weekend trip to Portland to see BORIS in September. I have never been to Portland so I NEED RECOMMENDATIONS and if I have any people there hit me ASAP.

So this New Noize was fun to say the least. As per the norm the diversity of this new music show was pretty high hitting a bunch of genres so something for everyone.

Album of the Week goes to The Koreatown Oddity with "ISTHISFORREAL?" All of his records are unique but this one you feel his maturity as an artist and what were once fuzzy tape sample have matured over to a studio sound with the same "down" quality bit with way more refinement & fineness. Personally I really like his South Asian samples and how he uses them specifically here. Continuing to compare this work to his past records it is his best execution of a concept album which if we are being honest is what the K-Town Oddity does.

Song of the Week goes to Mike Patton and the boys over at Dead Cross with "Reign of Error" on Ipecac Records. It SHREDS. Also kudos for releasing the song on a Tuesday! Very nostalgic, the real ones know.

Lastly I have covered the reggae soundclash 2 weeks in a row and have done a number of the shows throughout the year. With this fact I have decided to come up with a new DJ moniker for when I am called to cover the soundclash in the future. I am open to suggestions but I am rocking with Captain Frieza. See the DJ before New Noize goes by the "Cool Rullah" so I wanted to do a play off that. See Frieza father was Cooler in the DBZ series PLUS at one point he was a captain so yeah. Again I am open to suggestions so send em this way.

A Tuesday update? But why? Monday was a monster so apologies.

Song of the Week goes to the very likely duo Father John Misty & Lana Del Rey with "Buddy's Rendezvous" Seriously these 2 on the same track just makes sense even though FJM's voice is hardly on this specific track. I would love a "Watch the Thrones" type collab between the two so here is to hope, which is dead in America so the expectation are low.

Album of the Week goes to Interpol. Personally I have been waiting for this record for a while and it was worth the wait. Its fantastic cover to cover and you should check it.

SIDE NOTE I am also a really big fan of the new beabadoobee record "Beatopia". Its on constant repeat and I aplogive to beabadoobee for my Interpol bias.

SIDE SIDE NOTE. I don't know who Rachel Bobbitt is but her new EP "The Ceiling Could Collapse" struck a chord with me on the inside so maybe it will strike you on the inside as well.

I would say I am stoked for a bunch of upcoming concerts but inflation, the amount of algie that has died in the ocean and the position of Europa versus her other Galilean moons has caused a disruption in my dopeness flow.

Also TRIGUN is coming back in 2023!

It is a new story apparently. We shall see how things unfold for the man who is worth sixty billion double dollars in 2023.
