Ok ok ok let's be clear, I cut about 55 minutes off this set so I could fit the New Noize run time to under 2 hours and it was difficult. I love having this issue but it also spins me into a dark hole of wtf am I gonna cut, it was stressful but I survived.

One of my favorite releases comes from Auto Chlor who dropped a double LP but the thing is each LP has a different name, Kids Gloves and Crystal Math. Both are great and I highly recommend them.

Album of the week goes to Sightless Pit. Thrill Jockey rarely disappoints and when I heard the new Sightless Pit was coming out I was HYPED. The majority of Lockstep Bloodwar has features which by no ways is a bad thing but a bit surprising. The features include Mideife, YoshmiO, the late Gangsta Boo, Lane Shi Otayonii & a few more. This record is not for everyone and that's exactly the reason I like it.

Song of the week goes to Tanukichan featuring Enumclaw with "Thin Air". Put it on and I dare you disagree.

I will catch you all next week.

We are only a few weeks into 2023 and things are up in the air. Last week we were off air due to all the power being knocked out to the tower but luckily all things have been restored.

New Noize roared back onto the air with 2 weeks of new music under my belt to expose to the masses and let me tell you it was difficult to cut the set down to less than 2 hours. This past session we went all over the place solidifying New Noize's reputation as the most diverse playlist in the new music game.

Song of the week belongs to M83 with "Oceans Niagara". Fantasy out March
17th on Mute Records is one of my most highly anticipated records of 2023.

Album of the Week goes to the death metal stylings of Obituary with "Dying of Everything" The Florida metal scene is alive and well as these guys are currently burning everything down on their European Tour. This record cover to cover is a continuous onslaught of aggression with heavy riffs with their signature sound on every chord. You can hear they had fun making this record. It's out on Relapse Records now.

I will be back next week unless mother nature has different plans.

First new music show of the new year so New Noize is officially in 2023. As I write this my block is completely flooded so it's kind of like I'm on an island. Evacuations all over, stay dry Santa Barbara.

So since the year just started the majority of this playlist is a bunch of songs I didn't get to in 2022 with a sprinkle of everything new that came out in the past 8 days

Song of the week goes to ANIMA! with their fun new single "An Old Tune" It instantly gives you that feel good feeling so give it a spin or five.

Album of the Week goes to legends in the game Anit-flag with their new record "Lies They Tell Our Children" This is a bit left to what the band normally does as every track on this record has a different feature. Great for old school fans or if this is your first Anti-Flag experience.

SIDE NOTE Here is the Best of 2023 in its own playlist from last week's live set on Spotify. Remember there are songs missing as Spotify doesn't carry everything.

What a year 2022 was for New Noize. BORIS, one of my favorite bands, released 3 records for their 30th anniversary and I played them 3 times. Jack White released 2 studio records and had a 3rd "secret" not so secret release VAULT PACKAGE #54: Jack White Live "The Supply Chain Issues Tour" which I did not play because it's a pain in the ass to set up for wax at my studio.

Back to BORIS releasing 3 albums this year, on 3 different labels but only went on 1 tour, which I saw in Portland (due to me attending an Iron Maiden show in LA while BORIS was playing LA show that same day). Coming in at #10 BORIS with W. What a way to start January.

zzzahara coming in at #9 with Liminal Spaces and what a record. zzzahara has somehow bottles LA, her experience and everything in between over 11 tracks. Each song is a banger.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs came back into the spotlight late in 2022 and it was worth the wait. This is their most cinematic record and plays out more like a movie than an album. Coupled with their Hollywood bowl show (I wasn't lucky enough to make it into their LA club show) this trio (with Ammad Wasif live so a quartet in concert?) is showing all the kids how to age with grace.

Mahal by Toro Y Moi strolls into the #7 spot and is the coolest album in the top 10, if it had eyes it would be rocking 90s Ray-Bans. Toro brings a whole vibe so you don't have to. This is the type of record you can play at any party at any time and it will just "fit"

6 6 6 maybe the mark of the beast and if that beast happens to be Twigs then all hail. If my desire was manifested into human form "Caprisongs" would be the soundtrack this demon would be listening to while getting it's nails done. Everything about this mixtape is a triple turn on (mind, body, soul). DID YOU SEE ALL THE MUSIC VIDEOS? If for whatever reasons the cosmos tricked the sisters of fate and Twigs herself is reading this I'll happily be your accessory you fuckin rockstar.

Talib Kweli + Yasiin Bey(aka Mos Def) = Black Star x Madlib = No Fear of Time. What a formula. What a record. Only for a certain type of music fan this knowledge of self is back and is a must listen.

Number 4 Mitski takes us to Laurel Hell. Deemed by me just now as Mitski's most 80s sounding record, the theatrics of this live set made me almost forget it was at the Shrine Auditorium (not my favorite venue in LA). There are some serious ballads on this album weaved in with her signature brand of woeful hope that makes me both happy and sad to be alive.

Will there be Radiohead in the future? Who cares when you have projects like The Smile. I saw these guys at the Shrine but in the theater section which was MUCH MUCH BETTER. They played 3 unreleased songs (maybe 4) so hopefully there will be a follow up to this amazing piece of work. Think radiohead just a bit more upbeat with noisey movements and some throwback 90's elements.

Rosalía Akira slided her way into the #2 spot with Motomami. This is the most anti pop pop record I have ever bestowed into my ear canals. She goes from traditional spanish ballads to choppy genre bewildering sub categories that don't even have a name. Working with humans from Arca to Pharrell all of that blooms out on this album is pure magic.

Fucking Dangermouse. This guy puts out a record and it ALWAYS ends up as #1 on my "Best of" shows. Is there a better MC than Black Thought in the game right now? If you listened to "Cheat Codes" the answer would be a resounding no. This album features 2 artists that are on of their game. The way they complement and build upon each other is something to behold. Cheat Codes is one of those once in a lifetime experiences that sounds just right with every listen.

Traditionally New Noize is untraditional and this year reflects that. To keep in step with my untraditional traditions on a serious note all this is just me at the end of the day and to all who took the time out to appreciate all that I do I TRULY appreciate all the kind words of encouragement. I try to give you something that you can get nowhere else by no other outlet media source or human POV. Hopefully you learned, grew or discovered something in New Noize.
