What’s better than two hours of New Noize? Three. Yep, it’s our mid-summer special, or maybe it’s just because the Reggae Soundclash DJ was nursing an injury and I couldn’t cover his whole show. So, the powers that be tossed an extra hour my way. But that’s the boring truth, and nobody likes that, so you pick the narrative you prefer—it's the American way, after all.

With this bonus hour, I got to dig deeper, which made picking the Song & Album of the Week even tougher. But don’t worry, I pulled it off. Thanks in advance for your support—you know it keeps me going.

New Noize Album of the Week goes to beabadoobee’s latest record, This Is How Tomorrow Moves. It’s got that Americana feel woven through it, making you feel... well, feelings.

New Noize Song of the Week? That honor belongs to The Smile’s "Don’t Get Me Started." It’s got a political edge, which is a bit of a shift for them. Yes, they’re a politically charged band, but usually, it’s more about the feels than the facts. It makes sense to me, but if you’re struggling with that concept, feel free to reach out. And yeah, I know—I’m not great at these write-ups. You’d think after 20 years I’d have improved, but nope. All talent, no skills.

Speaking of talent and skills...

The Olympics wrapped up, and Team USA represented hard. Shoutout to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem—the pride of Pakistan—who launched that javelin farther than any human in Olympic history. Rumor has it he’s being recruited by the Night King to take out dragons in Westeros.

But let’s get real for a second. I’m pissed at Raygun and Australia for turning breakdancing into a mockery. They had so many talented breakers down under, but instead, they went with a spectacle. This Raygun, a college professor teaching about breaking and its culture, should’ve known better. As a kid of color from the 80s tri-state area, this is MY history and MY culture you’re mocking. SHAME. Yeah, I’ve got opinions—tell me I’m wrong, I dare you.

And the biggest takeaway from this year’s Olympics? Anime is mainstream, and you all owe me for the constant ridicule over the past four decades. IT IS MY TIME!!!

Viva la fiesta! And what a fiesta it was. This year marks the 100 year anniversary of fiesta and I had a blast. Many tamales were consumed, parties were attended and I still have confetti all over my apt. It's a tough life.

This past Sunday I sat in and did the reggae soundclash then eased right into my New Noize set & this week we went way overboard.

I started the show with the song of the week, all 8: of the new Father John Misty. My favorite part of his upcoming Greatest hits record is the sale of the Sub Pop loser edition vinyl, where it says, and I quote

Kudos to the transparency

Album of the Week was difficult as 2 of my favorite artists dropped banggers. JPEGMAFIA dropped a new album on Bandcamp with the "pay what you want" model. These cats are consistently the most punk rock of any in this hip hop game. Despite all that The New Noize Album of the Week goes to the hardest human for Detroit Mr Jack White with No Name. Dropping this in analog at his own record label brick and mortar store secretly if you happen to wander in there and buy any vinyl they just slipped you a copy. This is what the music game is all about. Alas none of my local shops were carrying it (trust they reached out to their vendors). I even tried to pull some strings with my barely there clout (you would think working with a record label since their inception would garner some sort of response but they were hell of tight lipped and non responsive) but I was able to hear "No Name" and my only gripe is that its way too short, under 45 mins but long gone are the days of ghour plus records. Then again Jack always liked to keep things on the short form

The highlight of the show was playing music from EVO. IF you may remember I attended EVO a few weekends ago in Las vegas and Street Fighter 3 III Strike was one of games played on the main stage. What you may not have known is the organizers of EVO commishend an album, RUSH: The Music of EVO 2024. One of the main producers was a fellow S Asian guy, Zaid Tabani, and after more than a few DMs i got the record and played the best track off album "NYC Jazzy24(Intro to "Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike")" If you have never heard any of the music from SF III Third Strike you are missing out, especially the title track, which brings me to the song i played right after by JPEGMAFIA (feat Denzel Curry) which samples the intro to "Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike" (with a whole lot of other SF samples)

Did you see house of dragons? Season 3 is gonna be bonkers.

See you next week.

Ya boy is back! Did I miss anything? I was off indulging in the legendary EVO, my first one, and it was incredible. Shoutout to all the good folks at EVO. Over the next few weeks, I'll be dropping content all about it. Tried to get a specific new music track from EVO – it’s coming next week.

Since I was at EVO, I had to cram two weeks of new music into Sunday’s set, so a ton of tracks got cut – that’s just how it goes.

The New Noize Song of the Week is LUX PRIMA (Karen O & Danger Mouse) with "Super Breath." Are they still using that moniker? New album? Tour? I hope yes to all. Their self-titled 2019 record was New Noize’s #1 album of the year, so expectations are sky-high.

I love a conceptual record, and Donald Glover is sending Childish Gambino off in style with "Brando Stone and the New World." (New Noize Album of the Week) It's genre-hopping and features classic hip-hop skits from the accompanying short film out later this year. This final project is his most diverse and a bittersweet goodbye for fans, likely to make many best-of-the-year lists.

Deadpool and Wolverine was great! Can’t say more without spoiling it, but it’s filled with heart. Ignore the negativity – it’s wonderful.

And why are people mad about Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom? The real question is, what DOOM song will they open the movie with?

Catch you post-fiesta this Sunday. Confetti will be everywhere...

Hey everyone, what a historical weekend that was. Is it just me, or does it feel like we're living in some hyper surreal alternate reality? Because I sure do. It's getting out of control.

One thing I have complete control over is New Noize, and I dropped another killer set. Dave Hanacek sent me the new Four Year Strong single, "Uncooked," and it ripped so hard that I had to open the show with it. The New Noize Song of the Week, however, couldn’t be more different. Off the Stones Throw label, pay attention to the musical stylings of Cornelius & Haruomi Hosono with their tune "Bara To Yaju." It's a gem.

It's no secret that I love all things Japan, so it's also no surprise that I'm into toe, an instrumental rock band from Tokyo. They decided to put lyrics on their latest record, "Now I See the Light.". This album is great, but I feel it needs some time to grow on me.

潘PAN (formerly known as "Aristophanes") dropped a new release, "Pan the Pansexual," a wild album out of Taiwan. It's a genre-bending journey that's all over the place in the best way possible.

So many other full-length albums dropped this cycle, including releases from Girl Ultra, Common & Pete Rock, Cigarettes After Sex, Salute, Pom Poko, and Cassandra Jenkins. I wish I had the time to dive deep into each one, but alas, I'm pressed for time. The New Noize Album of the Week is "Macro" by Brijean.

I've been hinting at something big for a while, and now it's officially official. I'll be at EVO in Las Vegas this weekend. For those who don't know, EVO is the most prestigious fighting game tournament, with finals always held in the USA. I’ve never attended the official EVO finals before, and I am hyped. I’ve got a press pass and will be interviewing music makers within this industry, along with some legends. There's so much more I want to say, but I'll save that for later. Right now, my main concern is the heat – it's 106 degrees as I write this. Thankfully, I'll be indoors playing video games.

The one thing I want to see at EVO is Arslan Ash winning his fourth consecutive title in Tekken. He’s the three-time champ of Tekken 7, and this will be the first Tekken 8 EVO USA championship. It better be Arslan, my Pakistani brother. I've never seen anyone Pakistani win anything, including myself, so I'm heavily invested. If you stream this, you’ll see me wrapped in the green and white flag, praying to my Khuda that Arslan claims victory once more. The FGC has come a long way.

See you in a few Sundays!
