It’s ya boy back, right before SUPER TUESDAY, and let me tell you, I’m not exactly feeling the “super” part. This election? Not something I’m buzzing about. Neither candidate is out here with the plan I want, but yeah, I’m still voting. Why? Because I like to complain—a lot. And I mean complain complain about anything and everything. Voting is my ticket to complain guilt-free for the next four years, so you bet I’m going to cast that ballot. You should too, so we can complain together.

On a brighter note, I had a BLAST doing New Noize. I threw in a few tributes, including the original 1954 Godzilla theme, because our King of All Monsters just turned 70! If you follow me on Instagram, you were fully bombarded with Godzilla content. I also slipped in MF DOOM’s “Fazers” (aka King Geedorah himself) as a nod to the metal-faced legend.

Opened the set with the New Noize Song of the Week: “Help Desk” by Wand. This release is a trip—they dropped two new tracks with remixes of those, so it’s technically an EP, but it’s longer than some full albums out there. Bottom line: I need more.

The New Noize Album of the Week goes to none other than Flying Lotus with Spirit Box. I’ve been playing this EP front to back since it dropped, and every listen pulls up something new. One of the best releases of 2024, no question.

This week, I’m hitting up Sofi Tukker at the SB Bowl—the last show of the 2024 season there, sadly.

I’ll be back for Sunday’s show, then going on a little break until December.

Oh, and yeah, in case it wasn’t clear: vote.

Lots going on right now:

  • The Yankees are really testing my patience.

  • Halloween’s a few days away.

  • Godzilla’s hitting the big 70.

Then there’s the election. And yes, it's personal this time, no question. But here’s the deal: just vote. Anyone telling you how or who to vote for? Fuck em. Voting is your right, it’s private, and it’s nobody’s business but yours. We’ll get through Nov. 6, don’t worry. Meanwhile, the world keeps spinning—kids in Gaza are still dying, Earth’s ecosystem is still on fire.

Also, New Noize.

AND THE YANKEES ARE HEADED TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!

Four more wins and the New York Yankees secure #28. Yes, I live in SoCal, and trust me, the New York hate is palpable out here, but you better believe I’m rocking full Yankee regalia all day, every day.

On to New Noize—I’ll keep it short because this Monday is dragging and so am I. Apologies in advance.

New Noize Song of the Week goes to Father John Misty with "She Cleans Up." I caught this live a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, it’s a certified banger. His new album Mahashmashana is out next month (and yeah, I know I mistakenly reported it was dropping next year in a previous write-up—my bad for the confusion). Oh, and the music video for "She Cleans Up" drops tomorrow on YouTube. Honestly, it could just be him strutting to this song for five minutes and I’d still be wildly entertained.

Album of the Week goes to Japandroids' final release Fate and Alcohol. Bittersweet, because shortly after dropping this, they announced on social media—no final tour, no last show. Just a social media post and peace out. Sad, but when it’s over, it’s over. What a run. I’m a firm believer that these band breakups aren’t always forever, though. Maybe they’ll reunite, maybe they won’t, but I’m not holding my breath. What I do know is these guys rule live. I caught them on their first tour at this tiny, makeshift venue in downtown Santa Barbara called Muddy Waters (RIP). It was a random weeknight, and I was hyped to see this duo from Vancouver tear it up. My +1? Winston, aka the Cool Rulah, host of the Reggae Soundclash, which, as you know, airs right before New Noize. Per usual, he was late.

Japandroids were loud—extra loud, since there were like 20 people in the venue. At one point, Brian King jumps on top of the bar, screaming the lyrics at the top of his lungs, but he’s practically drowned out by his own shredding. Rulah turns to me mid-show and says, “Des are sum bad white boys.” Yes, Rulah. Yes, they are. Thanks, Brian and Dave, for the memories and making me feel all the feelings. I’m gonna miss you... until you inevitably get back together. Maybe.

Oh and to all my Dodger fans I cant wait to bathe in your tears of sadness after the Yankees wipe the floor with you.

I work a lot. Like, a lot. This weekend? Covered Saturday and Sunday shifts before the reggae soundclash, and then it was right back to the station for New Noize. I was getting blown up left and right with calls, "Yo, you're on the radio!"—people aren't used to hearing my voice during daylight hours. I get it.

Big news though—I FINALLY BEAT BLACK MYTH: WU KONG! Between that, FFVII Rebirth, and Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, I don’t even know how to pick my Game of the Year. But I do know what my New Noize pick of the week is.

Single of the week? Flying Lotus, “Ingo Swann.” Could this be the FlyLo October surprise we’ve been waiting for? Stay tuned.

Album of the week? Blood Incantation’s Absolute Elsewhere. And before you @ me, yes, I know it dropped two weeks ago, but I didn’t spin it till now. If you’re looking for something more fresh, Chat Pile’s new one Cool World just dropped and demands your attention. Do yourself a favor and blast both of these albums at full volume. You can thank me later.

Also, this past Sunday was Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s birthday. Gone since '97, but not before my parents took me to see him live a few times. Long story short, Real World Studios unearthed a few crispy recordings from 1990 and pressed them into a four-song EP. Let's be real though—when an EP clocks over 40 minutes, it’s basically an LP. Chain of Light is incredible, whether you're a longtime fan or have no clue what I’m talking about. Major shout out to Peter Gabriel and Real World Records for putting it out.

And last but not least: LET'S GO YANKEES!
