We are FINALLY in August which means the onslaught of live music is about to begin. If you want to see an artist/band you will be able to see them as EVERYONE is going on tour from now until August of 2022.

This Sunday I decided to put the electronic artists right up front. In fact, New Noize Album of the Week belongs to foodman's "Yasuragi Land" which is out everywhere & released by Hyperdub. It is the Olympics plus I am a fan of all things Japanese so this record just fit.

Song of the week showed up in hour #2 with Penelope Isles' new single "Sailing Still". Their last record "Until the Tide Creeps In" was a fantastic debut & am really looking forward to their full length release later this year on Bella Union.

Side note, well not really as anyone who frequents this site knows my absolute LOVE for Evangelion and on August 13th it all comes to an end. The final movie in the tetrology of the Evangelion Rebuild series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, is arriving on our shores on August 13th. Neon Genesis Evangelion will always be one of my favorite anime series ever since I laid eyes on the original series via Adult Swim, specifically on the Saturday night anime nights, back in 1995. It was the 1st anime that showed me that this medium should be taken seriously. With so many subversive themes under a visual spectacle of giant robo-mechs battling alien angles during the last days of humanity to usher in a new era. I can go on and on and on and have many times right here about all things Eva but I will try to keep it contained. The series came to me when I was a teenager, much like the main protagonists of this series. I grew up in the 90s & so much of the content reflects so much of that time, our issues & the way we connect with each other. The original series' contentious ending caused the director/creator Hideaki Anno to amend this with 2 follow up films to close out the story BUT he was not satisfied. Anno claimed that the technology was not up to speed with the story he wanted to tell & with the popularity of the series his next goal was to retell this story in 4 movies, aka the "Rebuild" series. The first film, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone came out in 2007, which I saw at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in all its glory & set the bar high for the rest of the 3 films. I was fortunate enough to see the 2 following films at the SBIFF as well, thanks Roger Durling. Fast Forward to the 4th movie in the tetralogy, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, released in Japan last year and it is finally hitting US shores via Amazon next Friday, 8/13. If that wasn't enough Amazon is releasing all 4 movies on the 13th & if you are a prime member you can watch it FOR FREE! Yes I have been waiting on this ending since 2007, so 14 years and its finally coming to a close. I have been careful not to spoil anything and am looking forward to next Friday's marathon run as well as getting back on twitter.

I urge everyone to check out both the rebuilt movie series along with the original TV series (with the additional anime movie for the true ending) on Netflix.

Sayōnara Evangelion.

I'm not crying...see you next week.

The Olympics are going on & so is New Noize. As I do this update it is an unusually gloomy day here in Santa Barbara. Regardless of this drizzly this Monday update of New Noize will brighten up your day, or at least that’s the idea. Last week I promised metal & in hour 1 I believe I delivered, for at least the 1st half of the hour.

---SIDE NOTE: If you put out a song with the word "Juggernaut" I will play it, TRUST this has been an ongoing running joke for my entire music programming career and no one has noticed this...Maybe cause I go unnoticed...EMO Monday vibes---

I kicked off hour 2 with the New Noize’s song of the week, BadBadNotGood "Signal From The Noise". This 9 minute track is just a taste of what we are going to get hopefully later this year when their full length drops .

Album of the Week goes to Stone Giant's "West Coast Love Stories". Stone Giants is Amon Tobin newest musical project & this Brazilian electronic musician keeps impressing me with the audio landscapes he paints. Even though I no longer believe in the power of this fictitious emotion known as "love", "West Coast Love Stories" may appeal to my false sense of hope of love & the spaces it used to fill. If you like Amon Tobin then you need to get down on this record.

I will be back this Sunday with some more of that New Noize, we shall see if you show up.

Things are back to normal on the New Noize front unfortunately with no rockstar interviews but at least this playlist shines above any other new music mix when it comes to diversity of sound, artist & genre over the course of 2 hours and we casted a wide net this week.

Song of the week goes lofi with an emphasis on that "chill" with Park Hye Jin "Let's Sing Let's Dance" which is out now but will also be on her full length LP coming out later this year? I may die before her full length LP "Before I Die" actually comes out so until then enjoy all of this young Korean’s grooves via single format.

Album of the week was a hard one. New Yves Tumor EP smashes, I am a big fan of Koreless new album Agor & Typical Sisters "Love Beam" will one of the top "this album flew under your radar but should be in your top 21 of 21" Hell I even played a track from a live record that you can't get on stream at all (Bronx X Mariachi El Bronx live stream from music studio on Halloween and pressed with a candy corn colorway) BUT the one album that climbed to the top is Wavves "Hideaway". Has Wavves ever made a bad record? I don't think so and for me Hideaway is probably my favorites since their self titled record PLUS I dig it more than 2010's “King of the Beach”.

Next week be on the look out for metal on New Noize. I have been sitting on some surprises and I'm warning you now it will be aggressive, see you there????

LASTLY EID MUBARAK!!!! Tomorrow we celebrate, but since there is no other Muslims in SB, I will celebrate. Ok that is a bit of an exaggeration so me and the 80 other Muslims will celebrate. I do however challenge you to challenge the status quo and demand a day off in solidarity.

Yes, New Noize looks very different from previous weeks and that's due to an amazing conversation I had with Marko DeSantis during hour 1 of the show. You might know Marko from his other band, Sugarcult, but last night he came to represent Popsicko. Popsicko was one of the 1st bands Marko was in with some other Santa Barbara locals and their debut self release OFF TO A BAD START is being reissued on Big Stir Records. You can get "Nastassja" & "Gettin' Used To You" right now.

Also check out this informative Oral History of the Popsicko by S. W. Lauden here

Hour 2 was a nice mix of things but I didn't have the luxury of a 2 hour show so it's a bit more condensed but a killer hour nonetheless.

Song of the Week: Deafheaven "The Gnashing" Sargent House

Album of the Week: A Place to Bury Strangers Hologram (Yes I know its an EP, but it's a DAMN GOOD EP)
