We are FINALLY in August which means the onslaught of live music is about to begin. If you want to see an artist/band you will be able to see them as EVERYONE is going on tour from now until August of 2022.

This Sunday I decided to put the electronic artists right up front. In fact, New Noize Album of the Week belongs to foodman's "Yasuragi Land" which is out everywhere & released by Hyperdub. It is the Olympics plus I am a fan of all things Japanese so this record just fit.

Song of the week showed up in hour #2 with Penelope Isles' new single "Sailing Still". Their last record "Until the Tide Creeps In" was a fantastic debut & am really looking forward to their full length release later this year on Bella Union.

Side note, well not really as anyone who frequents this site knows my absolute LOVE for Evangelion and on August 13th it all comes to an end. The final movie in the tetrology of the Evangelion Rebuild series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, is arriving on our shores on August 13th. Neon Genesis Evangelion will always be one of my favorite anime series ever since I laid eyes on the original series via Adult Swim, specifically on the Saturday night anime nights, back in 1995. It was the 1st anime that showed me that this medium should be taken seriously. With so many subversive themes under a visual spectacle of giant robo-mechs battling alien angles during the last days of humanity to usher in a new era. I can go on and on and on and have many times right here about all things Eva but I will try to keep it contained. The series came to me when I was a teenager, much like the main protagonists of this series. I grew up in the 90s & so much of the content reflects so much of that time, our issues & the way we connect with each other. The original series' contentious ending caused the director/creator Hideaki Anno to amend this with 2 follow up films to close out the story BUT he was not satisfied. Anno claimed that the technology was not up to speed with the story he wanted to tell & with the popularity of the series his next goal was to retell this story in 4 movies, aka the "Rebuild" series. The first film, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone came out in 2007, which I saw at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in all its glory & set the bar high for the rest of the 3 films. I was fortunate enough to see the 2 following films at the SBIFF as well, thanks Roger Durling. Fast Forward to the 4th movie in the tetralogy, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, released in Japan last year and it is finally hitting US shores via Amazon next Friday, 8/13. If that wasn't enough Amazon is releasing all 4 movies on the 13th & if you are a prime member you can watch it FOR FREE! Yes I have been waiting on this ending since 2007, so 14 years and its finally coming to a close. I have been careful not to spoil anything and am looking forward to next Friday's marathon run as well as getting back on twitter.

I urge everyone to check out both the rebuilt movie series along with the original TV series (with the additional anime movie for the true ending) on Netflix.

Sayōnara Evangelion.

I'm not crying...see you next week.
