Shows on shows on shows this past week. Ok 2 shows but they were rad AF.

Saw Father John Misty at the Arlington Theater here in Santa Barbara and what a set! Josh played for about 2 hours to an almost sold out crowd consisting of many more white bearded males than expected. Besides the brofest the show was fantastic. Prior too this I had only seen FJM at small club shows and to see him play a much bigger venue was perfect. The backing band was crispy, Josh’s dance moves were on pointy and the set design/production was subtle but highly impactful. He performed a healthy mix of all 3 of his records and I couldn’t be more happier. I kinda fan-girled when he busted out “Nothing Good Ever Happens at the Goddamn Thirsty Crow” but it was dark enough that no one in my vicinity saw me freakin. Here is the set list (as according to setlist.fm) in all its glory:

Pure Comedy
Total Entertainment Forever
Things It Would Have Been Helpful to Know Before the Revolution
Ballad of the Dying Man
Nancy From Now On
Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins)
Strange Encounter
Nothing Good Ever Happens at the Goddamn Thirsty Crow
Only Son of the Ladiesman
When the God of Love Returns There'll Be Hell to Pay
When You're Smiling and Astride Me
True Affection
This is Sally Hatchet
The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apt.
Bored in the USA
The Memo
I'm Writing a Novel
Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings
I Love You, Honeybear

Encore:
Real Love Baby
So I'm Growing Old on Magic Mountain
Holy Shit

Thanks Father John Misty for coming thru.

Then Saturday night came and me and my 9 year long better half decided to celebrate by trekking down to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to see Flying Lotus and the debut of his all new 3D set. FUCKING STEVE! This guy always impresses and Saturday nights set was no different. The 3D was some of the BEST I have seen. I was off to the left side and saw the entire visual production perfectly. It was strange but in a captivating "I wish this goes on forever" kinda way. It is hard to describe but at one point this head started to float off the screen and as it came closer it got bigger and bigger. His laser skin was peeling back to reveal this tron like skull structure with glowing eyes all while floating over the crowd (and that was only a small segment). Flying Lotus’ production was like when Dave in 2001: A Space Odyssey travels through the “Star Gate” at the end of the film.

Flying Lotus' set was just as bananas as his 3D production. Instead of diving deep into all the tracks he played I will give you my #1 highlight, AKIRA!!!!!!! Yes you heard me right. In the 1st 3rd of Flylo’s set he did a killer mix using Akira soundtrack/score. It was one of the best things I have heard and seen period.

Oh I should also mention that Thundercat opened and destroyed. He funked the place up with his grooviness and stories about Japan and talking about DragonBall Z. During his song “Tokyo” he stopped towards the end, explained about the last time he was in Tokyo, shouted out Goku and his new form, did a brief explanation of creation of his song “Tokyo” and then led the crowd in a sing-a-long of the 2nd verse once more. Goku fucking ruined me too Thundercat…

And if Saturday night couldn’t get any better Hannibal Buress did a small comedy set in-between Thundercat and Flying Lotus.

ONTO NEW NOIZE. So much came out this past Friday the 13th I was a bit overwhelmed. The big surprise for me was the new Primus album. It wasn't even on my radar and when I opened my mail this past week my eyeballs almost fell out of any sockets. Masseduction by St Vincent also dropped this past Friday and it's a wonderful ride for anyone willing to buy the ticket. The new Wu record, The Saga Continues, is solid as well and is the 1st official Wu Tang Clan record to be produced 100% by Mathematics. The lyrics, beats, skits, kung fu samples and artwork are reminiscent of Wu records we all know and love. Is this Enter the 36 Chambers? No because nothing will ever be that great, but it’s still worth a listen and if you are down with the clan than an instant buy. I finally got around to spinning the new L7 and all I want is this band to come out with a whole record that is consistent with this singles theme. We as a society need this L7, get on it ladies (please).

Until next Sunday my peoples.
