Aye yo let's GO! What a week, the end of summer and it's been all gas all day. Between earthquakes, hurricanes, and throwing hadukens what's a dude to do? New Noize, that's the constant but even that did a bit of a switch, let me explain.

Here at NN I try to give you all things new and upcoming, which I did BUT with a bit of a twist.

First up Sonic Youth! The hope of this band doing a reunion show is, at this point, a fairy tale. Luckily reality did not disappoint as Sonic Youth released their last live performance from NYC, specifically Brooklyn, on vinyl, cassette, and streaming. What a quality recording with a killer set. (seriously fantastic job Goofin') Dropping the needle on this translucent wax I immediately felt this indescribable shockwave throughout my body. I forgot how good Sonic Youth was live and then remembered how long it was since I saw Sonic Youth. Much like Ron Burgundy, I was in a glass cage of emotion, but the good kind.

If that was the only new old thing releasing this past weekend I would have been more than content but Third Man Records was like, "Hold my beer". Somehow the druids of awesome that work at Mr. Jack White's label unearthed 2 relics.

 
First up Heatmiser. This obscure 90s Portland-based band music was hard AF to find growing up in NJ in the 90s. I had a cassette with a bunch of noise/grunge/indie bands from the west coast that I got from a dude that would sell me mix tapes. He just gave it to me because, and I quote "doesn't get all that shit" but apparently my 13-year-old self did. Needless to say Heatmiser was one of those bands on this free cassette. Fast forward to this past weekend and Third Man announces they are releasing "29-song compilation of previously unheard recordings" along with a demo version "Lowlife" which I played on New Noize last night. Again that's not all!!!

Third Man and BORIS are currently in a poly-label-relationship and we all are benefiting from this progressive lifestyle. Somehow Third Man Records pressed BORIS' Heavy Rocks (2002) for the first time here in the US plus got this record available for streaming. The first album in their three-part album Heavy Rocks series this record starts to define that BORIS has the ability to comment on a specific genre and turn it on its side while implementing their signature BORIS sound. This is also one of BORIS' most accessible albums compared to their previous work. Heavy Rocks features much shorter, contemporary-style songs but not compromising their heavy BORIS sound so it's weird that this album was so hard to get up until now. Post Heavy Rocks (2002) there is a shift in BORIS sound with their songs getting shorter giving way to albums like SMILE and their popular PINK album.  With all that said my hats off to humans at Third Man Records for making this a reality.

So this week we are changing it up.

The fact I got to program and play two of my top five favorite bands of all time back to back is, at least for me, what it's all about. It's one of those priceless and personal moments that happens too rarely in life and this one was definitely not lost on me so thanks to reality. Also thank you for checking into New Noize.
