HAPPY (late) CHINESE NEW YEAR. I was giving out a lot of red envelopes this past Saturday night in LA during a friend's birthday party. So much Chinese food and Moet was consumed by the end of the evening EVERYONE knew how I felt about them. Needless to say it was a grand time.

This weekend also brought a whole new New Noize. Its kinda like the Grammy’s only it happens every Sunday. Talking about the Grammy’s it was pretty solid, and big ups to brother sister duo Billie Eilish & Finneas O'Connell slaughtering the competition and winning all the Grammy’s that count. My favorite moment was when Tyler the Creator accepted his award and had his Mom crying (as she should) and his best friend/collaborator Jasper (with his Nintendo switch in had) flanking each of his sides. It was a great moment:

Getting back to New Noize there were some standout moments throughout these 2 hours. I dove deep on some full lengths including the new Okay Kaya & of Montreal. I finally got around to editing/cleaning up the new Mac Miller so my apologies for not spinning it sooner. My biggest surprise was the new track by Eye Flys and the new single from Sotomayor. Also had a bit of a "moment" on-air when trying to pronounce the single from 6TH CROWD. Lets just say I found out the hard way I can't read Russian.

Lastly the nation has been rocked by the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and everyone else in that helicopter. I can not say anything that has not already been said about this so I will leave you with this. Life is promised to no one so LOVE the people that you love, and forgive the people you don't.

Until next Sunday.

Everything made it

It's award season! This weekend saw the SAG Awards as well as the AFC/NFC championships (congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers). Locally we have the Santa Barbara International Film Festival flooding these SB streets with new movies, star studded panels discussions and some fun after parties.

This Sunday also saw a brand new New Noize and it went DOWN! This week's session was especially diverse in both flavor and substance. Hour 1 we went pure indie rock and got a little political towards the end and the beginning of hour 2. Eminem dropped a surprise record and I don't know how I feel about this new approach of not letting anyone know something new is coming. Call me a romantic but I'm all about the build up. Nevertheless I'm not mad a new Slim Shady record in this world. King Krule record is about to drop and in the upcoming weeks as well as the new Sepultura (don’t worry they both will be amazing, I can feel it)

Pull in next Sunday when we do this all again live at 92.9 KJEE.

What a weird weekend. I have no idea how Football works after the randomness of this past weekend's playoff games. Seriously what happened to the Texans? Did anyone tell the Ravens they had a game? I don't have a dog in this fight but if I had to "root" for a team that team would have to be the 49ers.

Sunday nights New Noize reflects this weekends madness. I went metal heavy in the 1st quarter of New Noize, then bleed some electronic and eased into some garage/indie rock until we totally unwound the tail end of hour 2 by going all over the place.

For Tom "For Real"

1st New Noize of 2020 and it feels good. Let us all take a moment to breath and feel this new new. 1st hour was all new minus the deep dive on the Cursive record that came out this past September. As we creep closer to this Sunday the flood gates will slowly open and by the time we hit week 3 of January there will be on onslaught of new jamz. I kicked the 2nd hour off with the new single by Hello Forever "Anywhere Is Everywhere" then transitions to all recent newish music.

I'm excited for all the new music drops of 2020. Coachella just announced a legendary line-up (past few have been meh but this year is all fit & flare) and am looking forward to see how all the rival festival line-ups stack up to Cocahella's colossal 3 day exertion.
