WHY CAN WE NOT HAVE GOOD THINGS!!!!! OK now that my tantrum is done I get it, trust me I do. If you haven't been paying attention Daft Punk has officially retired after 28 years of changing the game (I mean their last album came out in 2012 but still). Here is my "safe" Daft Punk story. I went to Coachella to see 1 band, Tool. Let me be clear, not only was I seeing Tool at Coachella that year (2006), I had 4 more Tool shows to see on that tour and this was to be their 1st show of 10,000 Days. Tool was playing Sunday, so I decided to see Daft Punk Saturday night. I liked Daft Punk's music but was not in love with these humans/I mean robots. As I made my way to the Mojave tent I caught the end of Audio Bullys set and connected with 2 hommies from Santa Barbara randomly (although I'd like to think it was through the magic of friendship and fate). Then all of a sudden I saw a fucking Pyramid roll out onto the stage and said to myself "How are they gonna do use that"

The lights went out. The crowd's collective energy was about to surge and then Daft Punk emerged in the Pyramid amidst oodles of fog, lights, lasers and their brand of electronic goodness. The rest as the saying goes, is history.

Retirement though? I guess they are human after all...

Thanks for everything Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter aka Daft Punk. You did it right.

New Noize is back a day late after taking last Sunday off for Super Bowl, did you miss me? This week I was back to spewing the best new music mix in all the land. Anytime I have new music from Iceage, The Voidz & Cannibal Corpse you know its going to be a good set, and that was just in the 1st hour.

In hour 2 I really leaned into the electronic side of things with new tracks from Galcher Lustwerk, Ora The Molecule and a remix by BRONSON of HAAi’s “KEEP MOVING”. Talking remixes I spun the Poolside remix of Billy Idol's "Eyes Without A Face" as well as diving deep on the new Death By Unga Bunga full length.

Quick video game side talk...Guilty Gear Stive Beta is going down this week/weekend and I am SO HYPED! I am still trying to get the game music by ArcSystems so if anyone has a contact for me I'd really REALLY appreciate it. Nintendo is also doing a Direct tomorrow and if I don't see anything related to these imma freak:

  • Legend of Zelda (Breath of the Wild 2)

  • Metroid Prime 4 (or at least the collection of the first 3 games)

  • Bayonetta 3 (and a damn discount on the first 2 games)

We have waited long enough on all of this.

See you next week my peoples.

Everything made it this week!

Closing out January 2021 right with the an ultimate mix this past Sunday on New Noize. It was a return to fashion with no one genre dominating any of the show. I kicked off the set with a band that I have never even heard of, Squid. Their single “Narrator” is 8+ minutes long and came with a "radio edit" that was much shorter for on-air. I played the long version.

I also got a chance to play some fun colabs. Chelsea Wolfe & Emma Ruth Rundle have finally teamed up for a track called "Anhedonia", please sargent house gods make this into a full length album. FKA Twigs teamed up with Headie One for "Don't Judge Me" and just look:

In that same hour I spun the new one Classixx & Local Natives "Francesca" as well as diving deep on the new Bicep record Isles playing a track called "X" featuring Clara La San. I can go on and on AND ON about every single song I got into last night but it's way easier just listening to the mix.

Also don't know if there will be a New Noize next week cause of the Super Bowl. I'll keep ya posted, until then...

New Week new music on New Noize. I took the internets (specifically Instagram) to figure out how to start this week's show. The choices? Start with r&b or metal, metal won. I don't think the 10+ people that participated on my insta-poll realized how much metal I was going to play which did take up the majority of hour 1. I opened the show with the ultra abstract track "I've Seen All I Need To See" from the Body, followed up with the always heavy Monolord and moved into that colab EP between Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou. In the same hour I dropped new music via Tomahawk on & all the way from the Netherlands new Asphyx amongst other metal greatness.

Hour 2 we smoothed things out & I finally played new music from Jazmine Sullivan. If you haven't rocked out to "Heaux Tales" you are denying yourself an amazing music experience and more importantly insightful introspective on the most consistently neglected perspective in the United States, black women. This album not only touches all "the feels" it peels back truths from her perspective which are both personal and relevant to all women, especially black women (as I type this fully aware of my maleness). EVERYONE should listen to this record and I guarantee this will be on many MANY peoples "best of 2021" come the end of this year. Alfa Mist's "Run Outs" brought some cosmic grooves & you know I mixed in that new new from Chai, 4 women that keep redefining Kawaii culture through indie pop goodness Nippon style.

Currently I am working on getting some video game music on next week's show. See if I can achieve this goal as well give you all another 2 hours of new music discovery.
