This Sunday I did not have to cover the Reggae SoundClash but still brought the heat to New Noize. Talking about heat its starting to creep into "the hot szn" in SoCal and this 2 hour set list is a nice preview of some summer jams you will be grooving to.

So I KNOW the new Migos record, CULTURE III is out and should be the New Noize album of the week BUT it's not. Sorry Offset, Quavo & Takeoff but the South African-Japanese living GOD known as Daisuke Ishiwatari blessed us with his newest video game Guilty Gear -Strive-. The living legend is a video game developer, illustrator, musician, composer and voice actor and did all of those things on his newest game, Guilty Gear -Strive- and if you know this game you & are obsessed with metal like I am then you will see all the nods to everything metal in this game. Let's take one of the main characters, Sol Badguy. His last name is a reference to "Mr. Bad Guy", a song by Freddie Mercury in fact his head-plate has the words "ROCK YOU" engraved on it which is a direct reference to Queen's "We Will Rock You". Take 2 of Sol Badguy's special moves, "Bandit Revolver '' which is a reference to a Japanese band called Bandit Revolver, and another move of his is called "gun flame" which is a Bandit Revolver song! We are just scratching the surface so if any metalheads want to talk about this in length, hit me up! Needless to say the Guilty Gear -Stive- OST is the New Noize Album of the Week. Currently the only way to listen to the whole OST is if you bought an upgraded version of the game (there is also a small issue on how to download this game but I figured it out, thanks google!)

New Noize song of the week is "Great Mass of Color '' by Deafheaven. Even Though it's not as heavy as the majority of their work it's a great new single setting up for a full length drop later this year. The track leaves you wanting more with a focus on where the direction of their sound will go.

Also Nintedo best reveal Metroid Prime 4 tomorrow.

See you next Sunday.

Everything made it!!

I swam in the deep side of the pool during this past Sunday's New Noize, meaning I broke into a lot of full-length albums and played some deep cuts. There were so many to choose from!! Perturbator, Red Fang, Rostam, Somnuri, EXUM, Japanese Breakfast, The Avalanches, black midi & Mndsgn all at my fingertips so I hope you enjoy what I picked out.

On the subject of picking it was terribly hard to pick this week's New Noize Album of the week but at the end of the day Japanese Breakfast came out on top (I'm sorry black midi & Mndsgn). I mean the 1st track is about one of my favorite feature length anime's Paprika which Christopher Nolan literally copied for his dream movie Inception. Oh if you like Inception watch Paprika and get at me(I love that movie). In all honesty all the records I mentioned deserve at least 1 run through.

Song of the week belongs to Rich Brian and friends over at 88 rising, California. It captures a SoCal summer style that needs to banged with the wind in your hair, or in my case the wind in my scalp.

Until next Sunday, peace out my peoples.

WELCOME TO JUNE PARTY PEOPLE. Big ups to all the veterans and active service members, this past weekend we celebrated them as they should be. This is also why this update is coming on a Tuesday.

This past Sunday's New Noize we went back to basics and made a truly mixed playlist crossing all the genres I could possibly cover. Just take a look at the song of the week vs the album of the week.

Album of the week was a hard one. So many full lengths I want to put into the spotlight but for me I had to highlight an almost local metal band which started in the 70s, Ventura California's own Cirith Ungol. They had a huge comeback planned for April 2020 and even came out with a reunion album called Forever Black but unfortunately the pandemic had other plans which killed everything. PIVOT to 5/28 aka this past Friday with Cirith Ungol releasing this EP Half Past Human.

Song of the week belongs to Cartel Madrass "Dream Girl Concept". Their last single Drift was a stoner banger, Dream Girl Concept is the perfect poolside jam under the summer sun. I dare you to play this AND NOT feel this heat. PLUS June is LGBTQ+ and who best to usher in 2021 hot girl summer than Bhagya "Eboshi" Ramesh and Priya "Contra" Ramesh who both fly their LGBTQ+ colors proudly.

Check you next Sunday for the live set which starts at 9PM on 92.9 KJEE here in Santa Barbara. Also if you cant catch the set follow the spotify playlist and it will auto update after I update this site. I am only 7 followers on breaking the 100 marks so if you haven’ already follow the spotify New Noize weekly playlist.

NOT ON SPOTIFY:
2. Star Moles "Spider Queen" (Vinyl Reissue)

New Noize update in full effect. I wanted to kick this write up off with some shame directed my way. How I neglected Star Moles for years is beyond me. I have never heard of this band let alone their album Camelot. My guy over at Planetary Group sent this reissue & in all honesty I rarely play reissues but I'm watching an anime called "So I'm a Spider, so What?" & the Star Moles have a song called "Spider Queen" so I rolled the dice. This song rules, this album is sweet and I feel so ashamed that I am just discovering Star Moles now. You should discover them if you already haven't.

Album of the week is Chai's WINK. I mean we all have been waiting for this record to drop & now that it's here IDK what to do! You can pair this record with anything and the fit will be perfect. Go ahead, test it, I'll wait...

Song of the week is Brodka "Hey Man". Their album BRUT is out next week (5/28) & if you like "Hey Man" you will infinitely dig BRUT.

Got some really dope news come next week, I'll keep you posted.
