I already have turkey on the brain but we are getting way ahead of ourselves. We got New Noize but first I saw Kikagaku Moyo and Khruangbin this past Saturday for the last SBBowl show and it was magical. At one point Khruangbin went into a little bit of a medley and played not 1 but 2 MF DOOM beats/instrumentals(back to back) and I truly lost my shit. I LOVE VILLAIN...

New Noize was killer with so much coming out this past week.

Song of the Week was easy cause I have a huge bias when it comes to BORIS. Wata came out with a new fuzz pedal and decided to release 2 new songs on a ultra indie Japanese label KiliKiliVilla. Getting this track was difficult but I am new best friends with Taro who works at KiliKiliVilla records. Needless to say, BORIS "Reincarnation Rose" is your New Noize song of the Week. Side note, Taro was cool enough to send me 2 other Japanese bands on KiliKiliVilla and NO NO NO should be on your A&R radar.

Album of the week could have gone anywhere but for me it's Swim Camp new one "Fishing in a Small Boat" If you like garage rock then you will like Swim Camp.

In other news I would be lying if I said I wasn't hyped for the new live action Netflix Cowboy Bebop on the 19th. Please don't suck.

FYI There maybe New Noize next week depending on how everything shakes out for Thanksgiving mode in Florida...Yay for parents but Florida.

See you in Space, I mean next Sunday(maybe) Cowboy...

Holy Halloween! It was a whirlwind this past Saturday night filled with bad decisions and amazing outfits. Needless to say I had all the fun and saw DAM FUNK, POOLSIDE and Chromeo all do DJ sets here in Santa Barbara.

This Sunday I did my annual "New Noize Halloweenish Special" I purposely sat on all the metal this Month as Halloween was actually on Sunday. So like 58% of the show was all metal so if you do listen to the spotify playlist you have been warned.

Album of the week should probably go to The War on Drugs or Mastodon BUT Imma freak it and give it the debut mixtape by PinkPantheress "to hell with it". It may only be 19 minutes long, but what a 19 minutes it is!

Song of the week goes to Habibi "Call Our Own", they came out with a 7 inch & hopefully this translates to a full album release.

EXTREMELY excited for the Khruangbin show happening here in Santa Barbara on Saturday. Khruangbin is always amazing like & at this specific show Japanese psychedelic rock will come in the form of Kikagaku Moyo and I have been waiting for them to play in the US for a while now. Also November is here and I will be taking a trip to see the parents in Florida come thanksgiving & will be doing all the New Noize before then, I think.

We are only a week away form Halloween and this year New Noize falls on the actual day and YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE A BRUTAL 2 hours. ALL DARKNESS is the theme of next week's set, but let's talk about this past Sunday's show shall we...

This week was pretty chill again, there must be something in the air. Song of the week was a tough one. Jack White is back with new music, Beirut single is fire plus a new Band of Horses track BUT the New Noize song of the week belongs to Animal Collective with "Prester John" I too am hyped for this full length.

Album of the week goes to the baddest Canadian white boys I know, BADBADNOTGOOD "Talk Memory" They are always innovating their style & sound and I get heavy Mogwai feels from thism what about you? Small programing note, i played the only track that is not available on streaming, so for the spotify playlist i replaced "Open Channels" with "Timid, Intimidating"

This past weekend I went to a kid friendly Halloween party and one of my bestest of friends dressed her infant son as me for Halloween. I was honored and it was hilariously on brand. I will share photos on request so reach out.

Oh I had an opportunity to see Bon Iver for the 1st time at the newly opened YouTube theater down in LA and let me tell you what an incredible show. The musicianship, the stage presence and the coolness factor all mixed into a lovely evening. Seriously I will never miss the guy doing his thing ever again. Twas magic.

Aye Yo! The movies are back and so am I. For reals, so many awesome flicks out right now plus this week kicks off too many concerts from now until Thanksgiving! I'll get into both subject matters here in a few but first let's talk New Noize.

Ok so New Noize's "Album of the Week" was insanely hard to choose, I mean look at all the goodness that dropped this past Friday. I would have picked Deerhoof "Actually, You Can" BUT technically it doesn't come out until this Friday so I can still pick it next week as I prefer picking albums you have access to. Yes I have the new Deerhoof record, one of the perks of what I do and let me tell you every track is AMAZINGLY Deerhoof good. So what is the New Noize Album of the Week? Sundur "Somewhere There's Music" on Needle to the Groove records. The easy parallel after an initial listen of "Somewhere There's Music" would be everyone's favorite Bristol trip hop group Portishead. One can feel the influence of this 90's juggernaut poking through every track yet Sundur has managed to make this sound their own and it really comes to the surface on this new record. "Somewhere There's Music" is great to put on as you are just waking up OR getting back home from a long evening full of cigarettes and regret.

The New Noize song of the week goes to my Algerian fam Imarhan with their new single "Achinkad (Une Biche)" This track is thick with spirits from all sources and will trance your vibe to an ethereal place of wonder plus this features Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals. The quintet's new album "Aboogi" drops in late January (the 28th) so enjoy this single until then.

So like I mentioned at the top of the write up SO MANY MOVIES. I just watched Venom 2, Let There Be Carnage and it was a fun flick and the end credit teaser has every comic book fan HYPED! No worries I am no spoiler and I'm not gonna start now. I really want to see the Last Duel, Medieval white people fighting other medieval white people directed by Ridley Scott, I'm ALL OVER THAT. THERE IS A NEW HALLOWEEN and I am so hyped. Michael Myers is one of my favorites of all time. I still haven't seen the new Candyman or Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but the flick I am MOST hyped about is the new DUNE. I have a big issue as the cast is amazing and very diverse BUT THERE ARE NO ARABS, MUSLIMS OR SOUTH ASIANS in any prominent roles. I predict a serious backlash and DUNE 2 better have a shit ton "us", but I will not hold my breath. Seriously the most prominent Pakistani anything in the America in 2021 (besides myself) is Ali from Squid Games and its a fucking Korean TV series (thank you Hwang Dong-hyuk for including "us") Before my sci-fi fools hit me up with "this is science fiction and takes place on a planet blah blah vomit" STOP. Frank Herbert has gone on record stating that Islam, Middle Eastern culture, Bedouin culture and South Asian culture are all sources for this fantastic fiction. Here is someone way smarter that wrote about this last year:

A quick look at Frank Herbert’s appendix to Dune, “the Religion of Dune”, reveals that of the “ten ancient teachings”, half are overtly Islamic. And outside of the religious realm, he filled the terminology of Dune’s universe with words related to Islamic sovereignty. The Emperors are called “Padishahs”, from Persian, their audience chamber is called the “selamlik”, Turkish for the Ottoman court’s reception hall and their troops have titles with Turco-Persian or Arabic roots, such as “Sardaukar”, “caid”, and “bashar”. Herbert’s future is one where “Islam” is not a separate unchanging element belonging to the past, but a part of the future universe at every level.

Lets talk shows. I am seeing Wilco this week. Here is a small wish list of shows I will probably go to:

Khruangbin 11/6 (Sat) Kikagaku Moyo
YVES TUMOR 11/8(Mon) Fonda Theater
Dry Cleaning 11/10 (WED) Telegram
Japanese Breakfast 11/12 (Friday)

Are there more shows that I am going to? Yes. Can I remember who they are, what dates they are playing and where they are playing? Not right now.

Lastly a nice chunk of this week's music selection can not be found on Spotify. I know why doesn't 92.9 KJEE stream? This question is above my paygrade but maybe one day we will join the rest of the herd. Until then the only way to hear the full glory of New Noize is to be in the terrestrial broadcast area that we cover in Santa Barbara.

Catch you next Sunday my peoples.
