Back from turkey slaughter day in Florida and it was fantastic. The Ahmed clan was at 100% (which is rare) plus minimal family drama. Something feels off...Anayay back in SB and yes we New Noize'd last night.

Since I missed a few shows this set was packed with a bit of everything.

New Noize song of the week goes to Miso Extra with "2nd Floor" It has this strange offness about it. It is ultra pop with some unique sonic distance that works well backed by her buttery voice. It may be all over the place but you should grab it while you can.

The New Noize Album of the Week was scooped by C'Mon Tigre with "Habitat" This record has a jazz/r&b base foundation but don't peg these humans because this record is truly versatile. Some may say even chaotic. The journey a band makes to figure out their sound is full of discoveries picking up various audio assets and incorporating them into their tool kit. C'Mon Tigre takes this to the next level, some tracks might have you scratching your head pondering if this is the same band you started to listen to. I assure you it is and you should definitely give "Habitat" a chance.

Also seeing Godzilla Minus 1 this Thursday at the smallest IMAX in the US. Yay? Whatever its almost Godzilla time...

It's good to be back in Santa Barbara.

It was a weekend full of laying low and cleaning the apartment cause that the rule before you travel, right? Anyway as SoCal braces for rain this week, yes that is a real thing people are stressing about, lets New Noize.

Before I get into all the fun I did cut almost 75 minutes from this past Sunday's set. Gone are the days of there being an off-season for new music releases which is a huge plus if you like music. I like music. Music.

The New Noize song of the week goes to Heartworms with "May I Comply". More people need to know about this band and their latest single is a great introduction. Fairly new to the scene but their sound is not. Heartworms have all the cliches down. They are from London. They have a goth post punk sound. They also have that black-and-white aesthetic perfected. What is far from cliche is their music. It has a certain aggressive fuck you dont touch me but watch this shit texture which hasn't been seen in this scene for a while. The band is fronted by Jojo Orm, remember that name. If they keep producing quality jams like this you will be hearing about them and her a lot more. While we wait for a proper full-length LP check out "May I Comply" along with their EP "A Comforting Notion" which was released back in March.

The New Noize album of the week goes none other than PinkPanthress. "Heaven knows" flows like an old-school PS2 soundtrack. Cascading landscapes of deep-cut samples hidden through rolling nostalgic drum and base sequences with 90s-like R&B vocals make this record, minus the last track, a wild ride. Not to dive too deep but let's take the track "Feelings" where the listener is met with 2 sounds. One is this classic key progression from a fuzzed-out synth and the other is the character select screen from Street Fighter BUT with an active player pressing in a direction that anyone from the FGC(look it up you normal) would instantly recognize. This combo creates a ridiculous hype yet laid-back intro; I'm talking about the first 8 to 9 seconds of this song that's how much care was taken into the creation of this highly anticipated luxury mixtape, and I mean that in the best ways.

Also no New Noize next week I'll be hanging with the gators as I lounge in my parent's Floridian home turkey slaughter.

Gobble gobble.

What a weekend!!! Let's just dive right in!

I had a killer set as you can clearly see. I opened with Last Horizon's "Saigyo no Titan/The Last Titan", the opening music for the last episode of Attack on Titan, and immediately after that I played "Itterashai/See You Later", the closing track from that same episode by Ai Higuchi. Both songs are amazing just like this TV show, which I will return to later in this write-up.

In that same hour, I got into the new track by WILLOW "Alone" which also happens to be the New Noize Song of the Week.

This past week we saw some amazing full lengths including new album drops from Viji, Actress, Crime & the City Solution, Dwarves,  Hotline TNT, and Kevin Abstract. This week's Album of the Week goes to bar italia's "The Twits". Highly stylized and feeds me that post-90s garage/alternative sound which is alive and well with bar italia.

So we all know I freaked out this past Friday to celebrate Godzilla Day. Happy 69 years to the King of All Monsters.

One of the biggest things to happen to TV in 2023 happened this past Saturday, I am talking about the last episode of Attack on Titan. What an amazing ending, which I dare was damn near flawless in all aspects. A mark of a good film/series is a pretty simple one, if you can remove a scene and it doesn't change the film/series then that scene should be cut. In Attack on Titan every single scene, event & decision had consequences that were relevant. If you have watched this show you know what I am talking about, if not then do yourself a service and experience the cultural phenomenon that is Attack on Titan, a series that surpasses its own genre. I know for a lot of people out there this is their gateway to the world of anime, Im talking to you Billie Elish...To the people who won't touch this because this is anime, I feel sorry for you. This is and will always be the ultimate medium to tell a visual story. Attack on Titan is speaking on what's going on with the world right now. For me, Attack on Titan is about the bittersweet struggle for survival called life no matter what age you live in.

Thank you Hajime Isayama for this amazing human journey.

Inertia rising. This phrase ignites my mind to fire off inner images of  Rei Ayanami consuming Earth or that huge massive implosion fusion blast during Akira's final seconds. Things are happening, but first we New Noize

What a show. Halloween has always been a special time for me plus pulling the power full moon I felt unstoppable. Coming off a crazy Saturday night (which I will get into later) I set off Sundays nights set with DJ Shadow's ""Witches Vs. Warlocks" off his latest record "Action Adventure". It set the vibe.

While we are on the subject of full-length albums I dove into more than a few including Teenage Halloween's "Till You Return",  Shabazz Palaces' "Robed in Rareness", Sofia Kourtesi's "Madres",  SIPHO.'s "PRAYERS & PARANOIA", i'll peach's "THIS IS NOT AN EXIT" and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's  "The Silver Cord" but what really stuck with me is also the New Noize Album of the Week. Shocker, right? Ragana is a band I have never heard of and am surprised because I am very into this type of sound/genre. I am disappointed in myself for not being on this earlier but to be honest it's kinda the best. I now get the opportunity to explore their back catalog and discover where Ragana came from all while championing my first experience with their latest record "Desolation's Flower". This album goes HARD. It has elements of doom, sludge, experimental, and black metal all produced by 2 humans who let you know what's up right from the get with their political stances in this haunting atmosphere that needs to be experienced with headphones on full blast.

I have to mention the new SIPHO. record "PRAYERS & PARANOIA" This album is everything and I predict this being on a lot of prestigious outlets "Top 25 of 2023" and rightfully so. It is essentially an R&B record but unlike any R&B record you have heard. PRAYERS & PARANOIA at times feels like an alternative concept record. For example, you are getting into some throwback 90s drumNbass breaks then all of a sudden you find yourself sweating it out to a Baptist church choir only to be pulled into afro-space funk all in one song? Give this record a spin, God knows I have been running it back all weekend.

OK, I know, how did I not pick Shabazz Palaces' "Robed in Rareness" for the New Noize Album of the Week? I have put these cats in the spotlight a number of times so relax and throw in this short but thick record on.

New Noize song of the week goes to Water From Your Eyes with "Open (Sword II Version)".. They released 4 songs but not in EP form so I can pick this!!! You should check out all the songs Water From Your Eyes released on 10/24.

I attended the "Feilds of Funk", a fun music festival here in Santa Barbara and I went as your favorite rapper's rapper. I was so hyped on my DOOM costume and have the uttermost respect for his memory. For the uninformed MF DOOM died on Halloween 2020 due to our failing healthcare system here in the USA, but that's a whole other thing I am not getting into. Ultimately he is gone and I am still sad about it.

I don't know about you but with all that's going on in the world it feels weird to feel excited about anything and then I remember where my grandparents & parents come up. The struggle can happen any time so savor the good times and that's what I'm about to do, so indulge me for a minute.

We got 2 of the best games of 2023, Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Wonder (which I am currently running through) earlier this month. Again 2023 has been a killer year for video games.

Halloween is tomorrow and I will be reviving my DOOM costume to give out candy at my hommies spot. Foot traffic will be high in this particular neighborhood but we are packed with mad snickers and any children or parents knowing who I am get an extra handful. Talking about DOOM and Halloween his estates always do a merch drop with this year being no exception. They are releasing a sweat suit combo in a Knicks colorway with matching slides and socks that I will attempt to cop and fail as this will in seconds.

GODZILLA DAY IS HERE AGAIN!  11/3 is gonna be extra special because not 1 but 2 huge releases are happening. Godzilla Minus One is taking a page out of Shin Godzilla with a totally adult vibe ditching the citchyness and going back to the King of All Monsters original feel. I have been purposefully avoiding the internet but do know Godzilla Minus One takes place right after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Godzilla looks PISSED.  Godzilla Minus One releases on Nov 3rd in Japan with the US release date coming on Dec 1st so you and I will have to wait to see it in its full IMAX glory. Don't sweat it though cause here in the US we get an Apple TV show  "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" which drops on Apple TV on 11/13and stars Kurt Russell. I haven't even begun to talk about all the Godzilla 2024 stuff cause there is something even more epic this week. Needless to say, if you are a Godzilla fan then be prepared to be spoiled.

2023 has been a banner year in anime and the most anticipated anime of a generation is coming to a close finally on November 4th. I have said this before and I will say it again, Attack on Titan is the best Television Series I have ever seen anime or non-anime. This 10-year run is finally closing out in true fashion:

14 page bonus manga about Levi’s origin release’s

Earlier this month Eren Yeager gave an Interview to the NHK in Japan. Let that sink in, yes this happened:

The final episode airs on November 4th.

I just got the new Thurstone Moore book "Sonic Life" and will be running through that during the Thanksgiving break. With how bad the airlines are running it is good to know I have something to feast on. If Thurstone is 1/56th as good of a writer as he is at shredding then I am in for a treat.

I will be gushing about all of this next week.
