This week's all about potential, but let's dive into that later. For now, it's time for some New Noize.
The set was packed, as always. I kicked things off with some smooth jazz to set the mood, got a little too groovy and moody— should have charged extra gratuity— twisted the show off with some serious metal.
New Noize song of the week? Father John Misty's "Screamland." The man's playing a sold-out show this Sunday. I’m hoping there won’t be a New Noize next week because I’ll be in SLO watching Josh if the gods allow...
Album of the week? The Voidz with Like All Before You. Dropping that "Julian Casablancas + the Voidz" thing and sticking to The Voidz? Smart move. The album sounds like their last two, but this one’s way more polished. Julian's giving us T-Pain energy, and I’m not mad at it—autotune all over, and it fits their whole experimental-lite art rock vibe perfectly. "Prophecy of the Dragon"? Pure 80s wizardry. Deep guitar riffs that scream big hair, lead paint, and neon everywhere. It's a killer track.
Honorable mentions? Noga Erez’s The Vandalist—hyper-eclectic, and it keeps hitting me with something new on every spin. And Planet Pearl by Pearl & The Oysters? Ultimate side-quest music for anyone trying to RPG their way through life.
Now, like I said, this week’s all about potential. What do I mean? Well…
Glass Beams tomorrow.
Kacey Musgraves pending Wednesday.
Anderson Paak pending Thursday.
Mitski Saturday.
Father John Misty pending Sunday.
For the uninitiated, I hit a lot of shows. Pending means I’m still working on getting into them—fingers crossed. Am I stressed about not knowing if I’ll make it to all these? Absolutely. But it’s the best kind of stress, if you know what I mean. AND SO MUCH DRIVING.
Oh, and a fun coincidence: I posted a gif of Liu Kang’s Animality last week, and guess what? Mortal Kombat brought back animalities. If only that kind of luck worked when I played the lotto. I need that money…
Hopefully, I won’t see you this Sunday, but if I do, I’ll make it a show worth remembering. And don’t worry—I’ll be back in Roctober...
