The Grammys were last night, and yeah, it was a fun show. I called most of the winners, which obviously makes me a music industry oracle. Feeling very proud of myself.

The New Noize Song of the Week is "I Want You (Fever)" by Momma. This track is the jam. Momma is back, better than ever. Feels like one of those albums that’ll be both commercially and critically acclaimed, but we’ll have to wait for the full release. Those tumbling riffs scream post-’90s goodness, and honestly, this might end up being one of the best records of 2025.

Another standout track is "Feels So Wrong" by Mamalarky. It’s got this groove that makes you wanna move—even though it’s aggressively chill. That's what they call duality right?

Motherhood's new album is loud, chaotic and Canadian. It also happens to be the New Noize Album of the week. Thunder Perfect Mind is aggressive but not like METZ. Yes its fuzzy but utilizes dynamic shifts in their movements while using soft harmonies to smooth out their overall sound and create small moments of joy in spots you wouldn't expect. It's a wild ride, and one that fully deserves your time.

Also, do you like Crumb? If yes, then you need to hear Teddy by Planet Parlor. It’s that brand of chill music that somehow hypes me up while keeping me mellow. LAID. BACK.

Oh, and on top of all that, I played three cover songs this week. Just saying.

Small programming note, no New Noize this coming Sunday cause of the Super Bowl.

And finally—my first live show of 2025 is locked in: Cowboy Bebop Live. Anime, jazz, and my fellow nerds? Going down Saturday at the Ventura Majestic Theater. Maybe I’ll even find my Faye Valentine...

See you in space, cowboy.

We’re IN it, baby—you and me. Another New Noize in the bag as we roll through these early weeks of the new year. Oh, and yeah, I had to cut a solid 50 minutes (basically hour three) from Sunday’s set. Too much heat to cover, but we keep it moving.

New Noize Album of the Week was tough as hell to choose. We had a three-way tie, but I had to crown a winner. Mogwai is back with The Bad Fire, a glorious return to their early sound but with all the depth and experience they’ve built over the years. This 55-minute journey is not to be missed.

I almost missed this one myself, but luckily, I follow her. Khadija Al Hanafi—remember that name. Her album !OK! has "Top 10 Records of 2025" energy, and we’re only four weeks into the Year of the Snake. Iranian brilliance.

If you know me and have been following New Noize since the beginning then YOU KNOW my everything Tahliah Debrett Barnett (aka FKA Twigs) dropped her new record and humanity has never been the same. "EUSEXUA" is one of her best works from front to back. Sonically it cascades throughout itself with this grungy warehouse 3:15 AM rave ear-feel that aligns all my chakras in the most chaotic ways. I LOVE THIS RECORD.  It’s exciting, joyful, unique, vulnerable, and gangster—an overwhelming masterpiece front to back.

-I did not love the vinyl release of  EUSEXUA , I shelled out a premium amount of rupees for the liquid vinyl version just for her label to cancel this release. I have always wanted a liquid vinyl release and I always get twigs stuff on wax so needless so say the material girl in me was crushed.  I did snag the "steel" version (yes, pressed on steel?), but I’m still waiting on that one. Fingers crossed.-

The New Noize song of the week goes to Hiromi's "Balloon Pop". This sounds like it belongs on the Marvel vs Capcom OST.

Real talk, this might be the most boring Super Bowl in my 44 years of existence. But hey, I’m still hyped for all the party stuff that isn’t the game. Actually, what do people even do at a Super Bowl party if they’re not watching the game?

Yesterday, I took a moment to honor one of the greatest Americans to ever America—Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The man was assassinated for standing up for what was right, and his contributions allow me to do what I do today. Thank you, Dr. King.

Oh, and we had a regime change. Let’s see how that pans out…

As for Sunday’s New Noize set? Yeah, it turned out a little emo—but sometimes you’ve just got to feel all the feelings. I leaned into it and showcased some fresh, raw jams.

The New Noize song of the week "Don't Want To Dance" by Porridge Radio cause I don't want to dance either.

Mac Miller’s Balloonerism is the New Noize  bittersweet Album of the Week. Its a solid record & it makes me sad he’s not here to keep making all this magic.

Finally got around to playing the new Aphex Twin. The record dropped in late December last year and compiles singles he originally pressed exclusively for shows between 2016–2023. These tracks were never widely available until now, and WHAT. A. RECORD. I love it—but then again, I love Aphex Twin.

Lastly I had to include "BLASTOISE!" by GENWUNNER. It’s gone viral again as well as being on heavy repeat for the past two weeks. It still knocks.

The first New Noize of 2025 is officially in the books, and it feels amazing to be back. There’s something undeniably exciting about January. Sure, it’s freezing out, but it’s also the season of fresh projects, bold announcements, and me getting to shine a light on what deserves to be heard.  I am highly aware how big my spotlight is and hopefully this is the year it widens. Or not all I can do is what I do.

New Noize Song of the Week was a tough call (as always), but I went with a little bias: "Orlando in Love" by Japanese Breakfast. I’m beyond hyped for the new album, and she’s hitting the Santa Barbara Bowl in August. Will she invite me backstage for drinks and high fives before her set? DOMAIN EXPANSION -manifestation-

New Noize Album of the Week is something I’ve been eagerly waiting for, and it absolutely delivers. zzzahara dropped "Spiral Your Way Out" this past Friday, and it’s been on blast everywhere I can find speakers.  The record has this fun finish to it, it has its melancholy  moments but has the hopeful feeling topped with so much LA style. Highly recommend to that friend that it is too cool to admit you put them onto something.

Funny enough, both my picks this week are from LA-based artists. Total coincidence, but before I sign off, I need to address what's happening in LA right now.

SoCal is hurting from the wildfires—devastation that’s spreading in more ways than one. If you want to help, please donate directly to verified GoFundMe campaigns. You can spend your money however you want, but be wary of big nonprofits or organizations.

And if you’re not from here? Don’t say shit. The amount of ignorant nonsense I’ve heard is incredible. My personal favorite gem: “Why aren’t they using the ocean to put out the fires?” First off, they are using seawater in some cases, but here’s the kicker: many fire zones aren’t near places where that’s even possible. Add in wind conditions that make any flight a nightmare, and oh, let’s not forget—you want to dump saltwater on mountains? You ever hear of “salting the earth”?  People are wild.

See you next week.
