What an exciting weekend in new music. Let's jump right in.

A bunch of quality LPs dropped this past week including BABYMETAL, Dick Stusso, 6LACK, DERBY FRIDAY, Navy Blue & Lana Del Rey and none of them are the New Noize Album of the Week? So who grabbed the golden ring? JPEGMAFIA x Danny Brown dropped a ridiculously alt hip hop collab record aptly named "SCARING THE HOES" and the best part is it's a bandcamp "name your own price" record.

TANGENT: Any collective/artist brave enough to do a "name your own price" on bandcamp is something you should cop. Simply put these types of releases show how confident the artist is in their work and should be supported.

What can I say about this record, it's a straight blindside hit that will concuss you into a world of MCing and avant garde type music production. This record reminds me of early 2000s late night adult swim. The album tells you right in the title what you are about to experience and when you let this piece ride you are NOT ready. Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA play off each other's chaotic flows with this bombastic garage rock-esque production that feels like the 90s but has that 2023 "the earth is on fire" apocalyptic vibe. Sounds familiar and fleeting with a whole lotta fun mixed in. I LOVE THIS RECORD. It's loud, unapologetic and gets me to ultra instinct levels. BANGER.

Staying on the colab train, "RR" is an EP that brings Rauw Alejandro & Rosalía together and sun you best watch out for "VAMPIROS". This track makes me wish I knew more spanish.

We are getting to episodes 12/13 in this season of anime which means NEW ANIME is about to start including Hell's Paradise. It starts April 1st and I ain't fooling when I say this will be the standout new IP in 2023.

Also I will be making some vaca moves, Tri-State I'm coming to punch my east coast card. I will let all interested parties know wassup.

This week brings more rain to SoCal, the holy month and another serving of the most diverse new music show this side of Neptune.

A bunch of solid new full length albums dropped this past week.

Yves Tumor "Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds)"— I know what a name for an album and the good news is that it delivers. It’s really groovy but not in the ways you think. Yves Tumor did release a lot of tracks prior to the album release but that did not take away from the initial listening experience. They have really come into their sound and this record will be in my personal rotation for months to come.

Genevieve Artardi "forever forever" -  Flying Lotus record label Brainfeeder rarely misses and   "forever forever" is thick with all the right places. It strives in its strangeness. TBH I’m still trying to figure the ins and outs of this one, especially how laid back aggressive it is.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra "V" I normally don’t like this style kind of music but I do like Unknown Mortal Orchestra and they are a great live experience. That being said this is record stands out from their already hefty catalog.

You know what the New Noize Album of the Week is right? Its M83's "Fantasy". I have been waiting for this record and I fucking love it. It’s a celebration of their sound while still pushing into new territory. To celebrate this release you KNOW I played the longest song on the album, “kool nuit”, a track that features Kalela doing her best Kazu Makino impression(seriously I thought it was heard on the initial listen and was surprised). I can go on and on so all I'm gonna say is that it’s a great album.

The New Noize Song of the Week goes to the duo that is opening the 2023 Santa Barbara Bowl season, the Chemical Brothers. "No Reason" is pure fire and sounds like something the Chemical Brothers would produce. All "No Reason" really does is make you urn for more and hopefully they plan on releasing an actual album.

Big ups my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters, this week starts the holy month of Ramadan. If you know any Muslims participating hit em with some support vibes and maybe not invite them for lunch for the next 4 weeks.

This Friday brings about another HUGE video game remake, Resident Evil 4, which is critically acclaimed as not only the best RE game, but one of the best games ever made. I played the demo and need something low impact during Ramadan and this is it. Also if you do game have you noticed all the best games in the past few months have been remakes? So we got RE4 which we all know is a banger, Dead Space Remake which was AMAZING, Metroid Prime Remaster and of course Final Fantasy Crisis Core Reunion. I am not made at these classic video game remastered and remakes like I am when they remake a classic movie. Some games, like all of the ones I just mentioned, need "the remake treatment" as the technology has upgraded making the already classic an even better gaming experience. Where as the movie medium, when it comes to remakes, are usually trash money grabs. With the recent success of Last of Us non gamers are discovering the glory of gaming narratives and remakes of these classic games cater to them and a new generation of gamers who have never experienced some of the best games ever made because of access to old technology.

It's officially official, another New Noize and another year in life. Thanks for all the messages and to those that actually came out. Saw Flaming Lips on Thursday at the Arlington Theater in SB and as always they completely took over the venue. What a spectacular scene. Saturday we did a small get together with all my friends with kids cause apparently bringing your kids to a rock concert in the middle of the week is a big no go...

Regardless of this past weekend's shenanigans I managed to do another set on New Noize. This past Sunday's set is a bit laid back, maybe my aggressiveness is calming down in my elder age

New Noize Album of the Week goes to Fever Ray with "Radical Romantics". This album begs you to see this live and trust me when I say you have NEVER seen a live concert like this one.  "Radical Romantics" is very self aware of itself and that may not make any sense before you hear it but after it most certainly will.

I kicked off the show with the New Noize Song of the Week, Zzzahara's "idk how to luv" I do love her records and have been a fan of her's for a while. So much so that her last record was ranked in the top 10 during the Best of New Noize 2022. IDK what the future has instore for Zzzahara but what I do know is if puts out a follow up to this single I will play it.

Getting old is weird. See you next week.

As I near my anniversary event horizon I reflect on forgotten previous versions who have become the biggest strangers I've known. Through the power of forward motion I got to drop another New Noize and here are some highlights off the playlist.

I kicked off the set with the New Noize Song of the Week from a band called Water From Your Eyes with their latest single "Barley" . It's dramatic in all the right places.

Tanukichan snatched up Song of the Week earlier this year so needless to say I was waiting for this to hit my inbox and as soon as it did it hit that permanent rotation. You know the album is good when you listen to it cover to cover, then immediately run it back. This album is kinda sad but not in a sad way if that makes sense. It has that dream pop texture with some serious fuzzy garage rock dankness that transports you into this emotional state far away from your present self. Tanukichan is not a new artist by any means but GIZMO is the record that people will listen to and then dive into the back catalog as soon as the album finishes. Also anyone that knows me knows how hard it was for me not to make Cracker Island the Album of the Week cause I am a fan of the Gorillaz and there are some BANGERS!

Talking about bangers Mando and Grogu are back and the bar for episode 1 of Seasons 3 of the Mandolorian is set to ULTRA HIGH. By the time the episode was over we had been to 3 worlds, met some classic friends, made some new enemies and set up to pick up key quest items for the final boss.

I KNOW I HAVE NOT BEEN TALKING ABOUT LAST OF US. Why, though? People are constantly asking me what I think of the HBO adaptation of one of the greatest narratives ever told in video games. Obviously I think it's a masterpiece of TV but I have been saying for decades that video games are a superior form of expressing narrative OVER film and TV every time. Never have I said the movie was better than the video game. There is one exception.

ANIME!!!!! Let's look at cyberpunk 2077, the game was an overall disaster mostly because of how broken it was on rollout. Then the anime came out which was one of the bigger surprises of last year and people returned to the video game, which was all patched up and was a different experience compared to when it was initially released.

Anime and animation are better mediums as their only constraints are the imagination and the almighty budget. But when anime does get an upper tier budget you get things like Attack on Titan. DID YOU SEE THE NEW EPISODE?!?!?!?! If you know, you know and if you don't you never will.

I'll be back Sunday after completing 15,695 days give or take a few...
