Let there be HEAT! Santa Barbara has been nothing but sunny and hot and I for one am loving it. Talking about heat checkout the latest installment of New Noize.

Song of the Week belongs to The Sextones with "Beck and Call" Talk about a vibe, it's the perfect summertime slow jam. This track reminds me of 11:26 PM, it's a warm 72 degrees with top-down and you are with that special someone cruising.

The New Noize Album of the Week goes to Snooper with "Super Snooper". Great things come in small tight packaging sometimes and Snooper embodies this. Clocking under 23 minutes "Super Snooper" hits you with 14 solid tracks that will cause you to upshift. ***SIDENOTE, I don't know where all these car metaphors are coming from, Mondays... Fun riffs, fast cuts, aggressively ridiculous lyrics and so much more will have you grinning throughout this cover-to-cover listen. I played "Powerball" cause as of doing this write up the Powerball jackpot is 900 million.

Lastly, new seasons of anime for summer 2023 have started and holy hell there are some bangers. 1 show I want to mention is Zom 100 AND IT IS FANTASTIC. The basic premise is an overworked shut-in is in a deep depression hole as his job has pushed him to the extremes of fatigue. Then, zombies and this is where the show shines. Instead of fear, there is PURE JOY as the protagonist quickly realizes he never has to go back to work again. There are only 2 episodes of Zom 100 as of writing this write up and this show is resetting the bar. So much so that before the anime season is over Netflix is releasing a Zom 100 live-action movie in, wait for it, AUGUST! If you know anything about live-action anime it will probably be astronomically terrible so watch the anime. The best part is you don't need Crunchyroll to watch it, you can check out Zom 100 on Hulu as well. Here is the trailer.

Catch you cats next Sunday.

I think I'm still recovering from fireworks shenanigans, I hate getting old but I do love me some New Noize

This past set the New Noize Song of the Week goes to Slow Pulp with "Slugs" It will fit right into your summer playlist.

I deep-dived into a few full-length LPs & EPs this past week and chose MELONYX with "Soul Glow" for the New Noize Album of the Week. This is one of those records you play during a Saturday pool party. Supreme grooves and harmonies carry this quality R&B record right to your heart.

I'll catch you cats next week.

This is the most Monday feeling Wednesday I have experienced. HAPPY post 4th of July party people. I ended up wearing mostly white, grilling up some kabobs on a friend's boat, and watching the fireworks from the Santa Barbara Harbor. It was classic SB indpenedence vibes. It was an extra long weekend so you know I did New Noize but the update is coming today, right now in fact.

DISCLAIMER: I did not get the new Uzi Vert record so apologies as it's a great record and ill hit it next week, promise.

This New Noize I focused on a ton of singles so not much when it comes to deep dives on full-length records on this past show. The New Noize Song of the Week goes to Kim Dracula with "Land of the Sun" THIS SONG HAS IT ALL. For reals, it's a mish-mash of a few musical genres and it's extraordinary how good it is and how well it works.

The New Noize Album of the Week goes to Sweeping Promises with "Good Living Is Coming For You" I really hope so Sweeping Promises.

In other news, I am gonna beat Gannon this week so I can move on to Final Fantasy 16. Just to be clear there is still a ton to do in Hyrule so I have come to terms with just getting all the main storylines all done and I will come back from time to time and finish anything else up. Needless to say, this is the GAME OF THE YEAR to no one's surprise.

Before I start I made a mistake. It doesn't happen often but some things fly over and under my radar. Apparently, back in February, I missed one of the best albums of 2023 so apologies as I just discovered this gem of a record so you know I put it in last night's mix. Who am I talking about? Straight from South Korea Parannoul with After the Magic. WHAT A RECORD. This has all the things I like, post-rock, bright highlights with melodic grungy grooves that would drive any Sonic Youth nostalgia seeker wild in a good way. This record will be on many people's "top 10 best of 2023" and rightfully so. Again,  After the Magic came out in February so it doesn't get the coveted Album of the Week but it does get the "Oops how did I miss that" pick of the week.

So what did get the New Noize Album of the Week? Creep Show & John Grant with "Yawning Abyss". It has this strange 80s-type archetypal electronic sound feel coupled with fuzziness that has a very Tabbacoo lite touch. It's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously so it's high on the carefree meter. I think it's worth your time. Honorable mentions go to the new Portugal the Man & Militarie Gun records. Both deserve your time and should be in your summer rotation.

The New Noize Song of the Week goes to the collab we all needed in 2023 Beck & Phoenix's "Odyssey" Much like the NN Album of the Week this song is just fun in the sun. The only bad thing about this track is that there is not more. Anderson Paak & Bruno Mars set the world on fire with Silk Sonic last year & I can see that kind of success with Beck & Phoenix getting together on an LP but unfortunately, this is all we get, unless...

Catch you cats next week.
