Hi everyone. It feels like every other Sunday I'm underwater here in Santa Barbara and this Sunday was no different. I am starting to sound like a broken record & hopefully, the SoCal monsoons are done for 2024. What isn't done is New Noize.

Right off the bat let me be the first to say what a crazy few weeks of new music releases. It was an especially stellar show. I had to cut almost 2 hours of music which is a good problem to have. This set was all thrills no frills.

The New Noize song of the week could have been any of these singles. Seriously there is not one track from this list that does not deserve this slot, but much like Highlander, there can only be one. Except when I make an exception but this is not one of those times. This week's New Noize single of the week goes to METZ with "Entwined (Street Light Buzz)" cause its a kick-ass track and deserves that top spot.

New Noize Album of the Week has caused the same degree of anxiety because of the onslaught of new releases, which again is a good thing. Heems dropped a banger out of nowhere, LAFANDAR is technically a collab record between Heems & Lapgan and its pure South Asian excellence. For those that don't know I too and part of that Desi clan and my chest is all the way out when I hear any track off this flawless record.

Talking collab projects and out-of-the-blue releases Boris & Coaltar of the Deepers got together to do each other's songs. The story goes that Coaltar of the Deepers, a kick-ass Japanese late 90s band who hasn't made a new record in a long while decided to put out an all-covers record of Boris. Boris caught wind of this news, said fuck that, and got in the studio with the COTD to get down on this project. On this record, hello there, both bands go back and forth covering each other's songs, reworking each track in a combined effort to create something new. They also cover the Cure song "Killing Another" which is a must listen. The only way to listen is to get this off of Bandcamp or if you know my guy Taro in Japan. He came through yet again.

This Sunday's New Noize Album of the Week goes to IDLES with TANGK. I have been waiting for this new album with great anticipation these UK cats sure did deliver. I think TANGK is one of their best records and is one of my favorite releases of 2024 so far so listen to it cover to cover.

This Sunday I had a very special guest in the house, a guy I have known since my freshmen year of college at Seton Hall, he works at Hot 97 and still works/contributes at WSOU 89.5 Jesse. It was incredible having him in the studio, talking shop and just kicking it. He is a warrior braving an atmospheric river just to come up for some noodles and radio. Needless to say, it was a great time.

I want to give an extra shout-out to all the people I reached out to especially my international people you humans came through with some exclusives.

A few nonrelated New Noize topics before I call this one done. This week is my movie week. Seeing Final Fantasy VII Advent Children tomorrow & you already know I have to drive at least an hour to see this, in SoCal after work traffic, yay? Is anyone else hyped for FFVII Rebirth release at the end of this month? Just me?

The following day I am walking to the movie theaters to see the new Demon Slayer. No Santa Barbara International Film Festival for me this year so I am looking forward to my mini-movie run.

Heads up there will probably be no show on 3/10/23

I saw Explosions in the Sky Friday night at the Majestic Ventura Theater fucked around and got a setlist.

Let's get into New Noize.

Album of the Week is The Smile with "Wall of Eyes". What else would it be?!?!? Truely it is a great record that begs to be played in order, cover to cover. I was lucky enough to catch them on their first tour at the Shine in LA a few years back and I can tell you with confidence that what you hear on the record is just a taste of what they do live. With that said I am hoping for 2024 tour and maybe an SBBowl announcement. One can dream...

Talking dreams wouldn't it be nice if Justice played the Santa Barbara Bowl? And at that show, Tame Impala would come out and do their new single "One Night/All Night". I don't think that will happen but I did play this single on yesterday's set and it's the New Noize song of the week.

There is another LP I have to mention and that's by Ty Segall. "Three Bells" is his most David Bowie record in all the right ways. Trust me throw it on and let it rip. It is more of a summer record so pretend you are in August when listening to Three Bells.

I cut 45 minutes off the set. I only get 2 hours and it's always hard to do. I always end up cutting something off the playlist every week when setting up my sets but lately, it's been a lot. Maybe I am adding way more than usual, maybe I am listening to way more than I usually do or maybe there is way more new music. Regardless it happened.
There is a strong possibility there will be New Noize during Superbowl Sunday, I'll keep you posted.

See you next Sunday.

According to the internet, SoCal isn't going to see sunlight for a few weeks but that won't hinder me from bringing you the best of the best when it comes to new music, this is the New Noize recap.

I create my final set on Sunday mornings just in case I have to slip something in last minute which happens to be pretty common. This Sunday I dealt with my 2nd biggest issue when trying to create a weekly new music show, too much new music. I have to program under 2 hours of music and this past Sunday I had to cut almost 50 minutes worth of quality audio. I love having this problem and apologize to all the artists that didn't make the cut.

This was a fun set. Kim Gordon (plus she is playing in Ventura in late March), Khruangbin, & whistling virtuoso Molly Lewis were just some of the new music I mixed this past Sunday. We got into some chiptune with Disrupt's "Arcade Addict", punked out with Pissed Jeans on  "Moving On", and praised all the metal Ingested brought with their new single "Paragon of Purity". Hell I even played this banger from Creepy Nuts off the Mashle season 2 OP for all my anime fans

Trust I have been doing that dance every time I hear it.

The New Noize Song of the Week goes to who else but the IDLES. "Gift Horse" is the 3rd single off the highly anticipated TANGK which is out next month.

Some fantastic full-lengths came out including one of my personal favorites Sleater-Kinney. Yes, the ladies from Olympia Washington are back with a celebration of all things Sleater-Kinney. Both me and Mariah Carrey have been long long-time fans and you should check out "Little Rope" cover to cover. The new Slime EP "Explorer Series, Vol 1" is all over the place in all the right ways. "Beyond the Warrior's Eyes", the new album by Brian Tarquin & Heavy Friends is straight-up blouse button-busting music. The New Noize Album of the Week goes to PACKS with "Melt the Honey". It's subtly sad on the upside. It sounds like not having a job and caring but not to the point where it's going to ruin your day because you smoke weed and have a plan that you will get to tomorrow.

It has taken me years to have these amazing music critiques take notes hommie.
