This MIX! This SET! This 2 hour show I call New Noize had all the things. I pride myself on the diversity of genres and it felt good to be totally on brand this week. I went just about everywhere this past Sunday.

DISCLAIMER and semi spoiler ALERT: YES the new BORIS album came out on Friday and that will be NEXT WEEKs ALBUM OF THE WEEK, but why? The Supply Chain issue delayed my package from coming in on time and I just got it dropped off on my doorstep. Since I am the king of slothiness I can not complain so we will push that pick to next week....Which brings us to the ultimate question, WHAT IS THE ALBUM OF THE WEEK?????

Lane 8 "Reviver" I played many of the tracks off "Reviver" over the past weeks. I thought the album came out but to my surprise he just released it on Friday. If you want to smile, throw this LP on and let it ride.

Song of the week belongs to one of the greatest bands to walk the earth and is one of the primary forces that made the guy doing this write up, Sonic Youth. Needless to say I was in utter disbelief & full of joy when they announced a new record. I like to call these types of releases "new old releases" It's Sonic Youth, and they were known to constantly create while on the road. Apparently they had been recording music while touring from 2000 up until they broke up and are releasing all these recordings on an upcoming LP, which you can pre-order on their bandcamp right now. If you do "In & Out" which i played this past Sunday and is your New Noize Song of the week. My hype cup runneth over with excitement of this full length release.

Till next Sunday my people.

Happy Tuesday! Monday MLK day caused a day off thus this update coming on a Tuesday, as opposed to all the other updates I do on Tuesdays due to my sloth factor. You are not here to hear about update protocols you are here for New Noize! You know your boy got you...

The past Sunday's set was a mishmash of all things that just came out or is coming out, like it is every week but this Sunday all genres came out to play.

This Sundays Song of the Week belongs to LIFE "Friends Without Names". Its the jam.

Album of the Week goes to FKA Twigs CAPRISONGS. Those in the know have been waiting for this mixtape FOREVER. The amount of unreleased tracks this young lady has is massive and her fans have been clamoring to get something like this. Not only is it out its WONDERFUL. Rework of older materials, new songs, insane collabs and fun old school skits in between every song (you know like they used to do on actual mixtapes). Every song hits. Twigs delivers a smooth & juicy album that will satisfy all the hunger for all her twiglets.

Side notes I re-watched the Eternals and IDK why it is critically rated as one of the worst Marvel Movies.

Last thing imma say is if I can achieve a fraction of My Khala’s her goodness then my time on earth would be considered a success. It's weird, I can still hear her distinctive laugh & talking smack in Punjabi. Until we meet again Khala Ahktar.

First New Noize of the 2022 season and as always, compared to the rest of the new music specialty shows I stand alone when it comes to diversity. Am I wrong? Send me a new music hour that plays Father John Misty followed by Earl Sweatshirt, I'll wait...

Ultra excited for this year and the onslaught of concerts that should be happening when this pandemic calms down, science willing.

New Noize song of the week was difficult to pick (some things will never change) and as much as I love the new Radiohead side project The Smile's "You Will Never Work in Television Again" the 1st 2022 song to grab the title of Song of the Week is Father John Misty "Funny Girl". Josh is playing next month down in LA with the Philharmonic & I pray to the rock gods I will be at this show.

New Noize Album of the Week is by a band I have never heard of, Sis. Their new EP, Gnani, is a nice mix of laid back lofi with some bright highlights, a ton of jazzy elements and the right amount of weird to set off your 2022 right.

Did anyone else see the latest Attack on Titan? This final season arc is coming to a close and out the gate the action, the drama & the resolve of Mikasa has me locked in.

Book of Boba episode 2 did a better version of Dune than the Dune did.

WE ARE ONLY 2 WEEKS AWAY FROM THE NEW BORIS RECORD! I will have a full review out on that come close to the release. I have been listening to their records in anticipation of their new one and they are one of the few bands that just resonate with and am flirting with doing an entire retrospective of their catalog after I spend more time with their new record.

WE DID IT. If you are reading this we survived 2021. SO MUCH noise about how this year was not that great but that's impossible, I mean do you see this best of NEW NOIZE 2021? It was truly the year of the savage and so many amazing things came out and did happen.

Let us start with the obvious. Japanese Breakfast took the #1 spot on the Best of New Noize 2021 with their album Jubilee. Japanese Breakfast also did all the music to Sable, a fantastic video game with an even better soundtrack. Michelle Zauner also also (I did the "also also" on purpose so relax) released my favorite book of 2021, Crying in H Mart. This book made me miss mom so much that the frequency of me calling here went up dramatically. My mom says thanks Michelle. 4thly I got see Japanese Breakfast at the Madonna in and it was RAD.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time finally came out & I didn't get to see it in Japan like I wanted to but it was still a magical time in my apt.

Metroid Prime 4 has didn't come out BUT we did get the 5th Metroid game in the 2D series aka Metroid Dread. It was my favorite game of 2021 (although I still have not played Death's Door) and I just beat the game on Christmas Day.

My favorite sneaker drop was that I made custom sneakers and it's a hobbie that I enjoy plus my footware is fly as fuck now.

TV shows were great 2021. My pick as #1 was Loki, how is Marvel making me like everything Thor related is beyond me but holy Galactus this series was glorious in every aspect down to Loki falling in love with umm Loki.

2021 was a monster year for anime, so many standout shows that I could have done a top 10 easy BUT MY FAVORITE was Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. It's mature, the story touched the cold void where my heart used to be, the animation style is unique and the world building happens at the perfect pace. The Isekai sub genre has saturated the anime landscape for a decade now and this show takes one of the best approaches to this concept. Plus you can stream this on Hulu.

My favorite concert was hard because I didn't see a lot, but I did see more shows than most and all of them stood out in their own unique way. As much as I loved watching Japanese Breakfast at the Madonna Inn there was another gig that did take my #1 spot (Sorry Michelle, you and your band are still my #1 album of the year) My pick hands down is St Vincent at the Vina Robles Amphitheater. The Daddy's Home tour left a lasting impression on ya boy and Anne shredded my face off whilst melting the cold void where my heart used to be. (Yes I know I used this turn of phrase twice, I am dramatic at times)

And the best thing about 2021 is you! Yes you! You made it.

On a personal note I love doing this show and want to thank everyone who has to deal with my madness.

See you in 2022 & until then, peace out my peoples.
