Radiohead Diving Into Deep Cuts at the SBBowl

Radiohead played the 1st sold out show of the 2017 SBBowl season last night and it did not disappoint. Some say that this is a warm up show to their Coachella dates but I would argue that this is just an “excuse” for Radiohead to play a venue that they really REALLY like. History has shown via their setlists that when they play the SBBowl, for lack of a better term are over the top! Don’t believe me, check it out (with some notes):

Bodysnatchers

This was not a “greatest hits” setlist by any means, in fact it felt like Radiohead kept playing deep cut after deep cut. Instead of busting out fan favorites like Creep, Karma Police or Paranoid Android they went the other way and pulled out rare tracks from Hail to the Thief and Amnesiac. Spinning Plates, All I Need and You and Whose Army?, Subterranean Homesick Alien are just a few of the rare cuts they got into. They stayed away from Burn the Which and instead funked out Identikit. I could go on and on about this setlist but their are die hard bloggers that will be talking about this show for years to come.

Another small tasty morsel from last nights magical full moon show was the opening act The Kuwaitis with special guest Dudu Tassa. They were fantastic merging traditional music from Iraq, Palestine, and Iran with contemporary rock made for the perfect appetizer before the main course.

I took some whack pictures on my phone, waiting on the SBBowl photos to release, stay tuned here.

OH HELLO!!!! Another Sunday in da books and I must say my playlists are getting better and better. This week was a bit difficult. Normally when I make these playlists I build it in iTunes to gauge how long round about I have. Usually I go over by 15 to 20 minutes and have to cut some tracks. This week was WAY different, I ended up going over 2 hours and some change. It was hard to cut so much music but that's a burden I'm willing to take.

Special note SHOUTOUT to Father John Misty, Sub Pop and all the people working this record. I got the CD full length and let me just say its fantastic. I have been instaSnaping (thats what the kids are calling it right?) using a new App called “Hype Type”. To all doing social media/marketing check out Hype Type, its pretty cool and made by a Brooklyn based app company called Easy Tiger. I use Easy Tiger Font Candy App frequently, mostly for my video game screen captures. Easy Tiger Apps is dope.

This whole playlist is a highlight. New Dragonforce, Anathema, Wire and everything else. I dived deep on some full lengths including Geotic, Crystal Fairy, Lusine, Mastodon & Father John Misty. I also had to reach out to get the MONO record from last year and holy instrumental amazingness batman.

I finally saw get out with my white girl friend and this flick was SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD Seriously Jordan Peele is the man.

Also got to check the series finale of Big Little Lies. To be 100 with you I didn’t think that I would be into a show about a bunch of rich white women and their Monterey Bay problems. BOY WAS I WRONG, fucking HBO always dropping the TV hammer of excellence. This mini series is not to be missed.

Till next Sunday my New Noizers.

Oh Hi there!

REALLY QUICK HAPPY FREAKING BIRTHDAY SILVARETTA AKA DAVE SILVA. Dave is OG crew and man sun you old, now here's a pic from us fresh off college freshman year.

Another New Noize done and here is the dope as hell playlist. Things to note on this particular set.

As you know being on the forefront of new music is a daunting task, full of stacks and stacks of new music being sent to both your digital inbox and traditional inbox. So how does this guy get a one up on all the other specialty djs out there? By going the extra mile.

You might have noticed that adorable gif I posted to kick off this write up. Thats slugcat and he (or she, but he looks like a he to me) is the main protagonist in Rain World, an indie "survival" game coming out on the PS4 and PC tomorrow. I do enjoy video games as much as I do the music scene so I burned some incense and prayed to the PR gods as I shot out an email contacting the makers of Rain World to get my hands on some of their amazing music that I have heard over the course of the development for this game. To my excitement they responded and after a few back and forths via email James and Lydia Primate were kind enough to send me an advance of the entire soundtrack, and MAN is it good. Its deep, dark and thick of fuzzy goodness which transports you to this world that slugcat needs to survive in. Personally I think its gonna be a contender for "best game music" in certain circles for 2017. Needless to say I am HYPED!!!! You can catch me streaming this game when it drops on YouTube or Twitch.

Quick NOTE since we are talking video games and I am part of the cult which is known as Destiny it is OFFICIAL, DESTINY 2 is coming out in September.

Another amazing band that I had to go the extra mile for was WaqWaq Kingdom. I have recently discovered the musical force known as KiKi Hitomi from Osaka Japan. In my research/digging/compulsive disorder to constantly find new audio I came up on WaqWaq Kingdom bandcamp page and who is in this band? KiKi Hitomi that's who! I reached out and they hooked me up with a copy of their record and needless to say I was STOKED. I highly recommend their new record Shinsekai, its tight and best beleive that you will be hearing more in the upcoming Sundays.

One last thing and its on the sad tip. As some of you know I work for Jack Johnson as part of my day gig and one of the cats I would interact with is Ben Beverly, the dude who ran Brushfire Records. Ben passed away over the weekend. He was a great guy to work with and an even better man. Though we didn't interact many times outside a professional setting, the few times we did he the definition of a  stand up guy with strong opinions and dug punk rock. I will miss Ben.
