They say when it rains, it pours. Life has fully strapped me into a rollercoaster that is plummeting into an abyss of nothingness devoid of any type of anything. It's like Ryu keeps gut-punching me. I know it's a bit dramatic but drama happens. No need to go into details just know that even though things are super low, your boy will always be up to do New Noize every Sunday. Except for last Sunday, that was my bad.

This past Sunday I played a bit of catch up but nothing I couldn't have handled. That new Cut Chemist record "Die Cut" is bananas good. I also dive deep on the full lengths from preoccupations, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Durand Jones & the Indications, & Anja Kotar. OH AND NEW MOTHERFUCKING PEARL JAM (thanks 10 club). My big one came from Burger Records this week, CHAI has finally released a full length album. Back in 2016 I was in Japan and these locals told me about this Japanese band that started out as a duo, a set of sister twins to be specific. They eventually became a 4 piece and holy AWESOMENESS this records is bad ass. Pick up "Pink" by Chai is you can find it.

This past weekend Jack Johnson opened the SBBowl season with a benefit concert. Even though I worked for Jack Johnson for over 4 years I did not attend. 1 because I have no $$$ right now, 2 it's a benefit show so even if they did offer me free tickets I would feel bad, and 3 New Noize happens on Sunday night. Big ups to everyone that went. Jack brought on a bunch of guests including Ben Harper, ALO, David Crosby, & Kenny Loggins. All in all, it was a great time to be had by all. Also, Santa Barbara is once again bracing for a big storm to hit. Good luck 805 and I'll check ya next Sunday.

Mondays, people hate them and so do I, but at least you get this write up. I come to you this week with a heavy heart as an ICON has passed away at the tender age of 54. Sridevi Kapoor was one of the biggest things in my life. Through her movies, my young mind was molded into what it is today. I don't talk about Bollywood for a few reasons, mostly because I just don't like talking about it with anyone who's not in the know. Sridevi is Bollywood royalty and the world has lost some magic. Personally, I didn't think this news would affect me this hard, but I'm devastated. The way she died was tragic. According to the BBC she "drowned in her hotel apartment's bathtub following a loss of consciousness. It had earlier been reported that she died of cardiac arrest on Saturday while at a family wedding in Dubai."

Sleep well my Chandni Rani.

On to this past weekend's shenanigans on New Noize. Breeders are back so is L7. I have no issues with these all female 90's outfits coming back with new music and new tours. I saw them when I was a teenager, and I will see them again as a 30 something balding old man. Of Montreal has released another song and video and I must say that if this whole album is like the last 2 singles Kevin Barnes just dropped this record is going to be a beast. I mean check out this music video:

Father John Misty is doing his best Puffy impression as he "Can't stop, won't stop" when it comes to new music. I don't know if "Mr. Tillman" is a b-side off of Pure Comedy or if he is actually setting up for another release. Either way new FJM is always welcomed news. You like Stranger Things? You know that Netflix SciFi show that takes place in the 80s. Well, then you know Steve Harrington aka the douche with the flock of seagulls hair who wound up being actually a good dude. ANYWAYS the lead singer of Post Animal is Steve Harrington real name Joe Keery. Joe and his band mates put out a great record. I did listen cause I wanted to see if this was a Dogstar situation, and it's not. Sorry Keanu, Post Animal is the real deal. SIDE NOTE I did see Dogstar in 96 and yes my friend's mom drove us to the show.

The second hour I came with the video game flex. Pretty sure I'm the only guy in all of terrestrial radio that played the new Kid Koala track "Five Spot Stomp" taken from Floor Kids, a "nindie" game on the Nintendo Switch. I don't have a Switch BUT I WANT ONE SUPER BAD SO I CAN PLAY THIS RYTHME GAME. Arts & Crafts records were nice enough to hook me up with the entire soundtrack to this video game and it's sooooo groovy. If you are a fan of breaking, scratching, bboying, dance battles and rhythm games this is the video game for you. Kid Koala really captured the feel of this kids game that adults will love as well.

See you in March

3 Day weekends mean nothing when you work Sunday nights, but is it really working if you love what you do? NOPE and this past Sunday was no exception as I was in for another 2-hour journey through the wonderful world of new music.

I had an opportunity to really mix it up this weekend crossing all sorts of genres and audio landscapes. Both Dante Elephante and Clean Spill are playing here in town (3/2 at soHo in Santa Barbara) so I did a back to back to prepare the locals.

I can't stop listing to the new Mean Jeans record. They have constructed a full length "radio jingle" record aptly called "Jingles Collections". All the songs clock under 90 seconds and within this tight audio structure they create hilarious music about their favorite products. I highly recommend it.

The big surprise from this past Sunday New Noize was Ensign Broderick. I don't know who from Six Shooter Records sent me this album but I'm glad they did, it's fantastic.

NEW FEMI KUTI. Yes, this is as good as it gets and you should be hearing a lot more from Femi Kuti here in the near future.

Last thing is I finally got myself going on Anchor, give it a listen and let me know what you think: https://anchor.fm/haaris-ahmed/episodes/17bef48. It is a pretty amazing platform and I have loads more to learn in order to refine my show online. If you have any feedback please get at me. If you want to listen to me on Anchor check it here.

Happy Late Chinese New Year.
