It's a Tuesday update so you know I had a weekend! OK, maybe not a typical one, but still pretty eventful. Check it. Sunday was Eid, so I took Monday off to celebrate but no worries there was still New Noize just with a bit of "automation".

I hate not being in the know. Usually, I pride myself on discovering new and emerging artists. It's my thing—I nerd out on it. Constantly exposing myself to new music is part of my job, and I should know what's what. But, let me tell you, that’s not always the case. Sometimes, I stumble upon artists who have been around for over five years, and it feels like a blow to my fully inflated radio ego. Yet, it’s also exciting because I get to dive into their back catalog and experience their sounds for the first time.

Take Hakushi Hasegawa, for example. WHO IS THIS? Or rather, WHO THE FUCK IS THIS?!!?! I’m obsessed. Brainfeeder has signed my new favorite artist. As I explored Hasegawa’s work, I realized I’d heard their music before but hadn’t appreciated its brilliance. Hakushi Hasegawa is like a Japanese blend of Melt Banana meets Merzbow, with pop elements and lighter tones. Even Mike Patton would dig Hakushi Hasegawa’s chaotic beauty and harmony. They’re the first Japanese artist signed to Brainfeeder Records, yet they fit right into the label’s eclectic roster. "Departed" is your New Noize Song of the Week.

One of the best records of 2024 is finally out, and yes, it delivers. "Why Lawd?" is available now, and you should not only own it but also gift it to a friend. It’s the perfect summer record, packed with banger after banger and full-spectrum humor. The features are perfectly placed, giving it a 90s mixtape vibe, or like picking a secret character from your favorite fighting game’s main selection screen. Every track has its own unique vibe, yet all are distinctively NxWorries. My only gripe is that they should have released the instrumentals alongside the record. "Why Lawd?" is your New Noize Album of the Week.

OK, real quick, did y'all watch the Nintendo Switch Direct? MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 IS FINALLY FREE! If you don’t know about the FreeMvC2 movement, this is not for you. Though if you do, WE FUCKING DID IT! The FGC (Fighting Game Community) and non-FGC folks united a few years ago to free Marvel vs. Capcom 2 so people could buy this legendary game. Long story short, we haven’t been able to play this game for over a decade, and I was convinced it was dead. I thought I’d have to spend an incredible amount of money just to play it again. OMA Eid Mubarak to me and all the MvC2 fans out there!

Not only are we getting MvC2, but all the Marvel-based fighting games from the 90s/early 2000s as well. I’ll be buying this on my PlayStation and Switch digitally, and you know I’ll be getting the physical versions for both consoles. We learn from history, and the licensing nightmare that is Marvel vs. Capcom is real. Capcom is including two ROM versions (US/JAPAN) in this collection, along with a music jukebox. The last Capcom fighting collection game had remix versions of classic tracks done by MNDSGN & KNXLEDGE, which I played on New Noize by hooking up my Switch to the board. It was a whole thing. I haven’t seen anything like that on this upcoming release, but I have hope. The best part? Online option + rollback netcode. It’s coming out in 2024, but no set release date yet. I suggest a shadow drop later this week. Regardless, this is a day-one call-out-of-work kind of event. Imma take you for a ride...

Hi. The amount of Pakistan-related texts I’ve received from non-Pakistanis over the last two weeks has been ridiculous in all the best ways. It all started with South Park coming for Pakistan via Cartman, and I’m here for it. Comedy at its finest. Then there was what should have been an easy win for Pakistan in a cricket match against the United States, but Pakistan LOST! To their credit, the entire US team is South Asian. The memes have been hilariously brutal. The final blow was this past Sunday when I got up hella early just to watch Pakistan lose to India by 6 runs. Ridiculous.

Speaking of Sunday, I did the damn thing. The first hour was dominated by all things electronic and funky with a few surprises. The second hour mixed back into some rock, indie, and a touch of metal.

The New Noize Song of the Week is The Jesus Lizard's "Hide & Seek."

The New Noize Album of the Week goes to Kaytranada with "TIMELESS."

Did anyone else catch the Summer Game Fest? If you did, then you saw Xbox/Microsoft dominate. WHAT A SHOWCASE! As a longtime PlayStation loyalist, I have to admit I want Game Pass on my PSN. It's worth the price for those day-one releases. But unless they drop the price of the Xbox Series X, someone donates it, or I find a killer deal, it's a system I won’t own. For now, I’ll be messing with emulation on my iPad, as that's apparently a thing now. Dreamcast Marvel VS Capcom 2, here I come.

I'm back! Did you miss me? Yes, even I take days off, although my long weekend got derailed by the absurdities of life. So, I pivoted to what I do best: doing nothing. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic. I did see Queens of the Stone Age, which was hands down the best concert of the 2024 Santa Barbara Bowl season (I know 2024 isn't over yet, but trust my foresight). The following day, I went on a date that didn’t end so well. I was amazing; my date, not so much. This woman was a year older than me, had a great job working in a neighboring county school system, and she's a non-white single mom who grew up internationally. Right, I thought the same thing—this is gonna go well. And it did, until it didn’t. I think Murphy's Law goes Super Saiyan 4 when I'm in date mode, regardless of who the date is. I'm not going into details, but modern-day dating is trash.

You know what's not trash? New Noize. Especially a New Noize coming off a break—you know it was a banger set.

The New Noize Song of the Week is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with "Frogs." Can we please get this record already? He has a habit of playing club shows in LA, and I hope that's the case this time around, although the band has yet to release the US tour schedule.

The New Noize Album of the Week was a tough call. All my favorite ladies dropped great pieces of work. Mui Zyu brought all the gentle feelings on her new album "nothing or something to die for." King Hannah put out "Big Swimmer" just in time for your next 50-minute drive to the beach. I can't believe I didn't pick DIIV's newest record "Frog in Boiling Water" as the NNAOW or Thou's "Umbilical." I love both these albums, and both deserve your time. Natasha Khan, aka Bat for Lashes, released an album about becoming a mom during a pandemic, and somehow my favorite UK Pakistani artist putting on her mom jeans and creating ballads around them are my jam. My other Pakistani sister from another mister, Arooj Aftab, released her second record, equally hypnotic and slightly less haunting, more optimistic (let's go with that) "Night Reign." In the end, the New Noize Album of the Week belongs to the LA Iranian ladies collectively known as Habibi with "Dreamachine." It's summertime in SoCal (don’t let the overcast fool you, tourists), and Habibi released the perfect record at the perfect time. Grooves, glam, glitter, guitars, and gorgeous gumption shine throughout their latest release. You'll get the signature sound that Habibi has been carefully cultivating since they started out, but this swag comes from years in the industry. This is summertime bonfire music at its finest and just in time. (ALSO I KNOW that not all these artists aren't ladies.  I'm not smart enough to go back and edit, I got deadlines!)

Lastly, being plugged in has never been so satisfying. 2024 TV content has been legendary, and we still have a few weeks to reach the half-year mark. Tonight/tomorrow, we are getting "Acolyte," the newest Star Wars show set 100 years before Episode 1. Then, later this month, we get "House of the Dragon.” Oh and the best movie of 2023 is now on Netflix. Godzilla Minus One

What a time to go out or stay in.

I have Monday laundry just laughing at me; gotta go.

Fucking Knicks. It was a hard game 7 to watch, but lucky for you New Noize always wins.

The New Noize song of the Week is dedicated to all the guys out there, specifically if you are going through "it". I'm talking about NxWorries feat Snoop & October London with "FromHere". If you know you know.

And if you know me then you already know the New Noize Album of the Week. It's Crumb with "AMAMA" . It has everything I like about a record and if you give it a chance you will see what I see.

This week's fun will kick off Wednesday night at the Majestic Theater with St Vincent then on Friday its Queens of the Stone Age at the SBBowl (which will be the best show of the SBBowl season).

Oh and no New Noize this Sunday cause I wanna get down with the long weekend as well.

See you in a few Sundays.
