I'm back! Did you miss me? Yes, even I take days off, although my long weekend got derailed by the absurdities of life. So, I pivoted to what I do best: doing nothing. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic. I did see Queens of the Stone Age, which was hands down the best concert of the 2024 Santa Barbara Bowl season (I know 2024 isn't over yet, but trust my foresight). The following day, I went on a date that didn’t end so well. I was amazing; my date, not so much. This woman was a year older than me, had a great job working in a neighboring county school system, and she's a non-white single mom who grew up internationally. Right, I thought the same thing—this is gonna go well. And it did, until it didn’t. I think Murphy's Law goes Super Saiyan 4 when I'm in date mode, regardless of who the date is. I'm not going into details, but modern-day dating is trash.

You know what's not trash? New Noize. Especially a New Noize coming off a break—you know it was a banger set.

The New Noize Song of the Week is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with "Frogs." Can we please get this record already? He has a habit of playing club shows in LA, and I hope that's the case this time around, although the band has yet to release the US tour schedule.

The New Noize Album of the Week was a tough call. All my favorite ladies dropped great pieces of work. Mui Zyu brought all the gentle feelings on her new album "nothing or something to die for." King Hannah put out "Big Swimmer" just in time for your next 50-minute drive to the beach. I can't believe I didn't pick DIIV's newest record "Frog in Boiling Water" as the NNAOW or Thou's "Umbilical." I love both these albums, and both deserve your time. Natasha Khan, aka Bat for Lashes, released an album about becoming a mom during a pandemic, and somehow my favorite UK Pakistani artist putting on her mom jeans and creating ballads around them are my jam. My other Pakistani sister from another mister, Arooj Aftab, released her second record, equally hypnotic and slightly less haunting, more optimistic (let's go with that) "Night Reign." In the end, the New Noize Album of the Week belongs to the LA Iranian ladies collectively known as Habibi with "Dreamachine." It's summertime in SoCal (don’t let the overcast fool you, tourists), and Habibi released the perfect record at the perfect time. Grooves, glam, glitter, guitars, and gorgeous gumption shine throughout their latest release. You'll get the signature sound that Habibi has been carefully cultivating since they started out, but this swag comes from years in the industry. This is summertime bonfire music at its finest and just in time. (ALSO I KNOW that not all these artists aren't ladies.  I'm not smart enough to go back and edit, I got deadlines!)

Lastly, being plugged in has never been so satisfying. 2024 TV content has been legendary, and we still have a few weeks to reach the half-year mark. Tonight/tomorrow, we are getting "Acolyte," the newest Star Wars show set 100 years before Episode 1. Then, later this month, we get "House of the Dragon.” Oh and the best movie of 2023 is now on Netflix. Godzilla Minus One

What a time to go out or stay in.

I have Monday laundry just laughing at me; gotta go.
