Hey everyone, what a historical weekend that was. Is it just me, or does it feel like we're living in some hyper surreal alternate reality? Because I sure do. It's getting out of control.

One thing I have complete control over is New Noize, and I dropped another killer set. Dave Hanacek sent me the new Four Year Strong single, "Uncooked," and it ripped so hard that I had to open the show with it. The New Noize Song of the Week, however, couldn’t be more different. Off the Stones Throw label, pay attention to the musical stylings of Cornelius & Haruomi Hosono with their tune "Bara To Yaju." It's a gem.

It's no secret that I love all things Japan, so it's also no surprise that I'm into toe, an instrumental rock band from Tokyo. They decided to put lyrics on their latest record, "Now I See the Light.". This album is great, but I feel it needs some time to grow on me.

潘PAN (formerly known as "Aristophanes") dropped a new release, "Pan the Pansexual," a wild album out of Taiwan. It's a genre-bending journey that's all over the place in the best way possible.

So many other full-length albums dropped this cycle, including releases from Girl Ultra, Common & Pete Rock, Cigarettes After Sex, Salute, Pom Poko, and Cassandra Jenkins. I wish I had the time to dive deep into each one, but alas, I'm pressed for time. The New Noize Album of the Week is "Macro" by Brijean.

I've been hinting at something big for a while, and now it's officially official. I'll be at EVO in Las Vegas this weekend. For those who don't know, EVO is the most prestigious fighting game tournament, with finals always held in the USA. I’ve never attended the official EVO finals before, and I am hyped. I’ve got a press pass and will be interviewing music makers within this industry, along with some legends. There's so much more I want to say, but I'll save that for later. Right now, my main concern is the heat – it's 106 degrees as I write this. Thankfully, I'll be indoors playing video games.

The one thing I want to see at EVO is Arslan Ash winning his fourth consecutive title in Tekken. He’s the three-time champ of Tekken 7, and this will be the first Tekken 8 EVO USA championship. It better be Arslan, my Pakistani brother. I've never seen anyone Pakistani win anything, including myself, so I'm heavily invested. If you stream this, you’ll see me wrapped in the green and white flag, praying to my Khuda that Arslan claims victory once more. The FGC has come a long way.

See you in a few Sundays!

Hey everyone! Sorry about the delay in updating. For those who don’t know, I also have a corporate day job that kept me quite busy yesterday. It’s the end of Q2 on an ultra-short week, and I'm trying to fit everything into three days. But enough about that—I have some amazing news to share at the end of this update. First, let’s dive into New Noize.

We had a monster release day this past Friday with so many albums dropping that I had to push a few to this upcoming Sunday’s New Noize set. Let's recap what happened in the last show.

I kicked off the show with a track called "Headband" by Lupe Fiasco from his album Samurai, which is also our New Noize Album of the Week. Lupe has been living by the ways of bushido, and his lyrical game is sharper than ever because of it.

A few other new album releases to check out are:

Hiatus Kaiyote - Love Heart Cheat Code
Omar Apollo - God Said No
Loma - How Will I Live Without A Body?
Megan Thee Stallion - Megan

Our New Noize Song of the Week is NewJean’s “Right Now.” Apparently, the entire K-Pop group has transitioned into Powerpuff Girls on this new, possibly conceptual, record. I can’t wait to hear all the other sugar and spice these ladies have in store for us when their new LP drops later this year, accompanied by a massive tour.

I’m hyped for the 4th of July! It's mostly because Cage the Elephant is playing at the SBBowl on the 3rd.

Oh, and some big news—I’M GOING TO EVO 2024 in a few weeks!!! If you don’t know what EVO is, we are built differently. No one except my close friends knows what EVO is, which is disappointing but unsurprising. I cannot stress how much this means to me and how excited I am to attend the biggest fighting game tournament of the year finally. There are other fighting game tourneys in the FGC, but EVO North America (held in Vegas) is the premier Super Bowl of fighting games. The main games featured are STREET FIGHTER 6, Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys, Mortal Kombat 1, King of Fighters XV, SF 3rd Strike, and GUILTY GEAR STRIVE! Which game are you excited to see at EVO? Everything will be streamed, and if you’re attending or in Vegas, hit me up. This also means no New Noize the weekend of the 21st, but we can worry about that later.

Hopefully, I’ll see you this Sunday!

Solstice weekend is in the books, and what a weekend it was! The heatwave hit hard, and Santa Barbara was all the better for it. For the past six weeks or so, we've been stuck under a marine layer that wouldn’t burn off until 4 PM, but that weather cycle came to an abrupt end. All the pagans and non-pagans gathered in our little beach community to celebrate the sun. I had a great time, a really great time. But that being said, I’m done with socializing for a while. Seriously. Every time I leave my apartment, it feels like Judd Apatow is directing my life. I can't afford this, Judd—figuratively, mentally, or literally.

Sunday was the last day of Solstice, and instead of hitting it hard again, I spent the day recovering my lifeforce. Plus, I had New Noize later that evening.

And New Noize is why you’re here! Clearly, there were a ton of bangers this week—so many that I'll have to spill into the following weekend to cover it all. I only have two hours for my set, and trust me, I could have easily done a four-hour show.

Picking the best in show this week was tough, but by the glory of the sun, I found my way and chose Suki Waterhouse's "Supersad" as the New Noize Song of the Week. This is her fifth single from her upcoming record Memoir of a Sparklemuffin (out in September), and so far, these songs are very different in composition but still unmistakably her style. More to come once 9/13 rolls around.

O. finally dropped WeirdOs, and yes, this is your New Noize Album of the Week. If you’re a regular at New Noize, you know I’ve been all over their single releases in anticipation of this new album, so this was an easy pick for me. It might not be for everyone, though. This isn’t an experimental album, but it has all the elements of experimental music that I enjoy. It’s chaotic in its cohesion and bursting with boombastic moments of joy. Again this album isn’t for everyone, but you’ll enjoy the excitement of all the surprises after multiple listens. You start to pick up on themes, cultural references, and other Easter eggs they’ve hidden throughout this unassuming masterpiece. Trying new things is fun, so give this a spin.

Speaking of trying new things, definitely check out the new albums from Your Old Droog & Catpack. Oh, and the new King Krule EP is solid AF.

I'll be back next Sunday—hopefully, you will be too.
