I had a way better "pre-weekend" than you.
Thursday. I headed down to LA, had a killer smashburger from this spot called Heavy Handed and they hooked me up with free rolling papers. A bit of advice, get the 2 patty smashburger, trust me. Then one of my best friends and I went to check out the Melvins and BORIS kick-off their tour. I didn't know what BORIS was closing the show, lucky I got there early enough to see both acts. BORIS closed with the song "boris" by the Melvins, I was surprised that no actual Melvins were on stage for that but all good.
Friday. The cat is out of the bag, I saw the Wu-Tang Clan (sans GZA & CAPPA) play Deckers and got to meet the entier clan. Highlights:
Inspecta Deck: Was talking Czarace then my friend came up to me and Rebel INS was like "cool jacket".
U God: gave him a high five then he asked me where the free shit Deckers was giving out
MastaKilla: mad chill and humble.
Rae: Probably the coolest clan member next to Ghost. I had met him via Bishop Lamont a few years back and when I mentioned that he and I were chopping it up.
Ghostface: I have met Ghost a few times but never like this. Introductions were made and he was cool, funny, nice, and pretty damn sincere. I told him about the first time I met him on my 22nd at this go-go-bar called Lookers in Elizabeth NJ. Tony Starks definitely enjoyed that and we chopped it up for a few.
RZA: totally blew me off but was nice about it.
Methodman: was surrounded by women so I didn't want to bother him.
Did I have something to do with the show? Yes. I consulted on this with the agency that booked the WTC. I am extremely proud and it took me a lot of time to get here so I feel, dare I say it, actually accomplished. I went with the WTC for various reasons but the one that made the most sense had to revolve around anniversaries. Specifically 50th annerversaeee. Hip Hop is celebrating 50 years and coincidentally so was Deckers! Sometimes the stars align. BONUS one of Ghost's producers gave me a song and you know I spun it during last night's set.
Ok OK Ok New Noize time. There was a bit of a country flare for the first half of the first hour of the set. Overall a pretty solid mix of diverseness that you are used to if you are a listener of this show.
Album of the Week goes to SPELLLING with "SPELLLING & The Mystery School"
Song of the Week goes to Shabazz Palaces(feat. Royce The Choice) with "Binoculars". So hyped for this full length whenever it drops.
