Do you ever feel like a cheetah in the savannah? Cheetahs are one of the most successful murders on earth and yesterday ya boy's kills rate was flawless.
It definitely helped that Friday was a monster for new releases. I mean, look at this set. It’s art. And as usual, I had to slash a good chunk of heat just to fit it into a two-hour show.
We opened with two K-pop juggernauts—BLACKPINK and TWICE. I didn’t make it to BLACKPINK’s kickoff show in LA this weekend, but I did spin their new single. Meanwhile, TWICE dropped a whole album last week in the middle of swirling controversy, and somehow still delivered a fun, catchy record.
From there we went full electronic, bounced into a lo-fi curveball from Bring Me The Horizon (yes, really), jazzed it up, and even landed on that new Jon Batiste joint—he’s coming to the SB Bowl later this year, by the way.
Hour 2 was so heavy. I shot off the new Clispe featuring tyler with POV. Top to bottom produced by Pharrell, this is one of the best records of 2025 but it's not my album of the week. I wanted it to be but Wet Leg had other plans. Their new record, moisturizer, has been draining my batteries and battering my earholes since its release. Everything about this sophomore record screams "fuck you pay me like jay z". That’s Album of the Week behavior.
Also in the mix: Die Spitz, the newest act signed to Third Man Records. If you don’t know them, change that. Their new track “Throw Yourself to the Sword” is raw, and I can’t wait for their album to drop later this year.
Speaking of drops, let’s talk about Ghost of Yōtei. PlayStation gave us 20 minutes of preview chaos last week and absolutely broke the internet with the announcement of three modes:
Kurosawa Mode: black & white, more wind, more drama
Miike Mode: blood, mud, tighter camera, straight outta 13 Assassins
Watanabe Mode: lo-fi hip-hop during combat and exploration. I repeat: lo-fi samurai battles.
They also dropped two tracks from the OST, so of course I had to spin "Atsu’s Theme."
And after all that heat, what took New Noize Song of the Week? Deftones with "My Mind Is a Mountain.” A new Deftones album is exactly what this country needs.
This upcoming weekend is so stacked.
Friday: catching The Sandlot at the Sunken Gardens (SB’s “Movies in the Park” series—the theme is dogs).
Saturday: fingers crossed I get into that Julie / Marais show (Insha’Allah). Big fan of the opener, so get there early—I will
Sunday? You already know. Another New Noize set.
See you then
