I’M BACK, BABY. Did you miss me? Eid Mubarak to all—this Ramadan had me running on divine melatonin. Ya boy was tired.

This week’s set was a sleeper in the best way—dreamy, cinematic, and built to soundtrack your life. First seven songs? All from soundtracks. That’s right, it’s an OST takeover:

  • Evanescence – “Afterlife”: straight off the Devil May Cry anime

  • Kamasi Washington – “Vortex”: from Lazarus, MAPPA + Adult Swim + Shinichirō Watanabe magic

  • Replaced – “Void”: a future cult-classic video game OST in the making

  • ODESZA x Theodore Shapiro – “Entering Lumon”: Severance remix from the show you all watch (except me)

  • Flying Lotus – “MOUTH BLOOD”: from the ASH OST, directed/produced/scored by FlyLo himself

  • TEKE::TEKE – “Meikyu”: featured in the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows

  • Jack Black – “I Feel Alive”: from the Minecraft movie—yes, really

This week’s Song of the Week? Tortoise with “Oganesson” Chicago post-rock royalty. They’re back, and I’m hype like it’s the first time I heard TNT in my college dorm. If you’ve never seen them live, that’s a life experience waiting to happen.

Album of the Week goes to Σtella “Adagio”. A chill, lush, multilingual springtime dream. This album’s meant to be played at golden hour with a Negroni in hand and your lover staring off into the middle distance like you’re both extras in a Wes Anderson scene.

Apologies for the late write-up—life’s been moving fast.

Yeah, I kicked off the show with a track from 1997. Why? Because The Folk Implosion got the reissue treatment—Dare to Be Surprised is back on wax, WHITE VINYL, and they’re even touring again (okay, fine, it’s for their album from last year, but still). That record is too good to ignore.

Speaking of surprises, YHWH—a four-piece out of NYC—just dropped Nailgun on Friday, and I’ve had it in HEAVY rotation. It’s aggressive, noisy, sporadic, and most importantly—worth your time.

Album of the Week goes to a record I’ve been waiting for all year: Japanese Breakfast – For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women). And don’t let the title fool you—this record is glowing. It’s the first peek of spring sunlight through your blinds, that perfect SoCal blend of melancholy and warmth. How SoCal? Jeff Bridges—yes, THE DUDE, Santa Barbara royalty—shows up on a track. He better pull up to the Santa Barbara Bowl show this August.

Speaking of the Bowl, My Morning Jacket is rolling through a few days before Japanese Breakfast, supporting their new album, Is (which also dropped Friday). If you’ve never seen MMJ live, fix that immediately. Their following is cult-like, but Santa Barbara shows are chill as hell. Last time they played here, two random humans bought me beers. Is feels exactly like that moment—warm, unexpected, and just good vibes all around.

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, Flying Lotus not only directed, starred in, and produced his new film ASH—he also scored the entire thing. This soundtrack is pure FlyLo madness, so if the film is anything like this cosmic horror soundscape, buckle up.

Now, let’s talk Eli Roth. The man who brought you Hostel is out here curating Italian soundtrack compilations from the '60s to early '80s, digging into the vaults of the legendary CAM Sugar label. As someone who appreciates a shortcut to dopeness, I love this. This music makes me feel like I’m in a classic Vespa speeding down a cobblestone back alley in Italy, scarf flapping in the wind, some bella clutching me with one hand, sharing a cigarette with the other. Thanks, Eli.

And finally, Song of the Week goes to Deerhoof – Immigrant Songs. Seven minutes of everything I love—chaotic, melodic, and sprawling. I wish all Deerhoof songs were this long.

This Wednesday, I’m watching my favorite Hayao Miyazaki film—Princess Mononoke—on IMAX in 4K. I’m bringing someone who’s never seen it, so I’m curious how a 1997 anime classic lands with fresh eyes. Also, IMAX tickets are TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. They are also releasing this just this one time, why? for reals can someone explain this?

And lastly—Ramadan is coming to an end this weekend. Eid Mubarak in advance! Since it’s Eid, not sure if I’ll be on air next Sunday, but we’ll see.

Until next time, keep it loud, keep it weird, and stay curious.

Another New Noize in the books, and the soundscape was more laid-back than I expected—but no complaints.

Song of the Week goes to feeble little horse for "This Is Real." It starts off soft, then explodes into a cacophony of feedback and indie goodness. feeble little horse is back, and after hearing this, all I want is a new record.

How is no one talking about this album? Seriously—no big outlets are covering this killer record. Dead Channel Sky by clipping. is obliterating any notion of genre boundaries. Revolutionary lyricism paired with frantic, shape-shifting production that jumps from jungle to industrial to chiptune and beyond. Sub Pop has done it again.

See you next week.

A lot of important things happened on March 9th. Albert Potts patented the street mailbox in 1858. Barbie made her debut in 1959. Biggie Smalls was murdered in L.A. in 1997. But the most significant event for humanity?I was birthed into existence.

This year hit different—it was a Ramadan birthday. Instead of the usual blowout, it was a solo, silent day of reflection. 45 years in, and I’ve survived it all. Reality stays testing ya boy’s Deen, but we’re still here, still moving. And this year was extra special because it was a New Noize Birthday! So, how’d it go?

Song of the Week goes to Car Seat Headrest for dropping a 10-minute epic called "Gethsemane." It’s fantastic.

Album of the Week is Eternal Reverie by TOKiMONSTA, and what a celebration of her career. This record is thick with personal moments, layered behind vistas of melodies and grooves that make you want to move—even if you’re fasting. A summer record that landed before summer, so get into it.

Oh, and I do a birthday playlist every year. This year’s theme? All songs I’ve seen live. Throw it on and enjoy.

See you next week...
