You know what it is, it's New Noize! For fans of the show (yes I'm talking to all 3 of you) you may have noticed no "all vinyl set". Besides me being a dirty liar, a series of mishaps, early birthday festivties (not my b day) and life curve ball on the form of termites have caused the all wax set to be postponed.

On to this weeks New Noize playlist. I played some longer tracks this week, thus the shorter playlist. Not only did I get new Com Truise, he apparently is playing a few blocks from my house, May 10th to be exact. I got some full lengths and dived deep into the Afghan Whigs, Mac Demarco, Bobs Burgers, CO/NRTY and Basement. OH I did spin 1 record store day release, Ike Reiko. If you were lucky enough to score the Ike Reiko vinyl, the insert came with a cd. What I wasn't prepared for was the coding on my itunes which is totally in Japanese. Lucky for me the jack of the CD as well as the vinyl is in English. Also fun fact I got 0690 of 1000.

As far as singles go, I had to kick off the show with new ODESZA. Also spun new Shabazz Palaces, DJ Shadow & Nas, Brutus and Foster the People. Talking Foster the People, WTF! I mean they totally stole Every Time I Die's font for thier cover art. I applaud Every Time I Die twitter person for calling them out on social media. For reals who doesn't like a good indie rock feud. Then again maybe Foster the People did this on purpose, their new single is called "Doing It For the Money" after all.

The surprise bonus was the new Jimmy Urine full length record. This is his solo project from his immensely popular Mindless Self Indulgence band that he is known for. I'll be honest, I am not a huge fan of MSI but after hearing this album maybe I should go back and give it another chance. From the opening notes I was immediately attracted to this new album release. Maybe it's the appealing "video game" feel I get but all I know is I am looking for excuses to spend more time with this new record.

Until next time..

What a Week. Happy post 420. For this "holiday" I saw Russian Circles, Eagles of Death Metal and MASTODON! It was my 1st time seeing Mastodon and it was fantastic. Their set list was a booming reflection of their entire career. Needless to say the closed the show with "March of the Fire Ants" It was a true success.

It was also Earth Day weekend and in SB we do it BIG! Both Jack Johnson and Jeff Bridges were walking amongst their local neighborhood. What did I do? After working a bit of board opt duty with one of our flagship DJ's, Phat J, I ended up catching Little Dragon opening for Glass Animals who closed out the show. Little Dragon completely slayed as awalys droping a "best of" set. It was Glass Animals last show of their tour and you could tell they pulled out all the tricks and jams. I was impressed as was the sold out Santa Barbra Bowl crowd.

OH AND IT WAS RECORD STORE DAY!!!! Shoutouts to all that participated and supported their local record store. Did I get everything I wanted? No, but it was still a great success. I will go into the whole RSD thing when I do my all wax set next week!

As per the norm I hope you like this past Sunday's New Noize, still one of the best new music specialty shows in the world.

Good afternoon to all the professionals and fans of New Noize. I'm sure everyone out there is nursing a post Coachella hangover from this past weeks festivities in Indio California. I decided not to go to the desert, and by "I" I mean my bank account. Maybe one day someone will hook up this DJ with the VIP celebrity experience a la VIP tickets and a free hotel room. Until I get to SECREST STATUS I will be happy right here in SB. And that's not to say I didn't have a fantastic week, quite the opposite. I saw Radiohead's warm up show, it was so freaking good I did a separate write up on my site, so check it. I also got a last minute phone call on Friday night from a hommie who was stuck with an extra ticket to see the Migos at the Arlington. It was fun, I dig their album Culture and they got the sold out crowd moving throughout their mic hot set (seriously sound man get the feedback situation right) I was clearly the oldest guy without offspring there. Also I have never seen that many people say the N word since Jigga at Coachella.

New Noize standouts include the new Jack White "Battle Cry" and Bobs Burgers song off their upcoming sub pop release. It took me a bit to get these tracks so I really hope you enjoy the 2 hour set. I dove deeper into Father John Misty, Black Angels, Loose Tooth and Pile records. Really looking forward to the full length by the Ho99o9, they are from my home state of NJ so this album will rip, right?

In other news saw 2 flicks, Ghost in the Shell and Turbo Kid (on netflix). Ghost in the Shell was not bad at all. It took some time to get going, and they switched around a bunch of shit around BUT overall this was a good movie. Scar-Joe held it down as the Major and I think the film did well to address the central there of "Identity" and "control" Turbo Kid on netflix was a 5 star flick. Style, soundtrack, scenery everything about this movie screams fun. There's a sweet love story wrapped in the modern campy movie with so many 80s film references you will loose count after the first 30 minutes.

ALSO make sure to participate in Record Store day this weekend. Due to my economic situation I will not be going the extra mile for records and my RSD show may have to be skipped. Although I may have enough wax from this year to do an all vinyl set, we shall see.

Radiohead Diving Into Deep Cuts at the SBBowl

Radiohead played the 1st sold out show of the 2017 SBBowl season last night and it did not disappoint. Some say that this is a warm up show to their Coachella dates but I would argue that this is just an “excuse” for Radiohead to play a venue that they really REALLY like. History has shown via their setlists that when they play the SBBowl, for lack of a better term are over the top! Don’t believe me, check it out (with some notes):

You and Whose Army? -SUPER RARE
Let Down
Bodysnatchers

This was not a “greatest hits” setlist by any means, in fact it felt like Radiohead kept playing deep cut after deep cut. Instead of busting out fan favorites like Creep, Karma Police or Paranoid Android they went the other way and pulled out rare tracks from Hail to the Thief and Amnesiac. Spinning Plates, All I Need and You and Whose Army?, Subterranean Homesick Alien are just a few of the rare cuts they got into. They stayed away from Burn the Which and instead funked out Identikit. I could go on and on about this setlist but their are die hard bloggers that will be talking about this show for years to come.

Another small tasty morsel from last nights magical full moon show was the opening act The Kuwaitis with special guest Dudu Tassa. They were fantastic merging traditional music from Iraq, Palestine, and Iran with contemporary rock made for the perfect appetizer before the main course.

I took some whack pictures on my phone, waiting on the SBBowl photos to release, stay tuned here.
